Guest guest
Dear Tom and Prajna ~ I too, Prajna, was very sorry to hear about your accident, and, aside from your car, I pray that you are physically okay. Tom, I was unclear about what you meant about starting a group on Prosper.com. I visited the site, so I have an idea how it works. Is there a special subgroup on the site for Amma devotees, and if so, can you provide a link? Also, you mentioned getting the membership up, and I wondered if you were referring to the digest? An old friend from the digest said that it had dwindled a great deal, and the few times I've peeked through the window, each digest has only a few emails. Can anyone tell me what has happened? I too, would be willing to contribute, so if we can get more people so that a specific request area could be set up for Prajna, that would be wonderful. "...if anyone is able or willing to sell me a car cheaply, or let me make payments on one, or knows of someone or something helpful." Your situation is one example of why I started the group on Prosper.com. It would allow people to contribute to a bonfide loan for you to buy a car. Since enough people on the list know you, you'd probably be able to get people to commit to a very low interest rate. Assuming you're working right now, it would also keep you fiscally responsible, karmically speaking, rather than outright charity. Unfortunately, people can be afraid of new ventures and it'll take time and advertising to get the membership up enough to be of any benefit to anyone. So I apologize that it's not a viable option right now, unless folks on here wish to try it. I would certainly contribute $50 towards a loan in your case (more if I'm ever able to get another job, as I just turned down one that wasn't working out. Nothing like doing 2 weeks of training for free).
Guest guest
Prosper.com is the main website/business co-founded by the guy who started then sold E-loan. It started earlier this year and is still making improvements as more features are requested. The loans are legit from Prosper, then re-sold to whoever made sucessful bids (they handle all the payments and bill collection). Before the loan is disbursed, typical things like sending in copies of driver's license and paystubs is used, along with faxing back signed loan papers. Reports about payments are made to the credit bureau's, improving your credit score. You don't have to belong to a group, but there's certain benefits for being in one(check the website about all this). It increases your chances of getting the loan funded, while good payment history gets the group discount points on loans. Anyone on the site can bid for your loan, even if not in your group. Groups can be friends, co-workers, even family. One person's screenname on there is "bank of mom and dad", so even Prajna's parents and friends could contribute this way. As group leader, I'm not actually allowed in the group, but I can do things like endorsements, especially if someone needs a little help in explaining irregularities in their credit report. For example, the score used by Prosper to give you your credit rating for the site, is the Experian "Score Plus", not the regular "Score", so it may be a little worse than the regular score. But, that's what a group leader can do: vetting(?). A person can send me certain documents and I can vouch for them in an endorsement. If enough people are willing to do this, it'd best be done through email first before actually listing the loan, for certain reasons. Loans are UNSECURED from $1,000 up to $25,000 for 3 years. Giving is good when it's appropriate, but able bodied and/or educated individuals shouldn't accept complete charity, generally speaking. The Indian custom of not receiving gifts without giving in return is based on the Law of Karma. Membership, I was talking about the group on Prosper (Sri Seva Credit). If we had 100 people willing to lend the minimum of $50, that would equal $5,000, but maybe a good used car could be had for less? Below is the long direct link to the homepage for the group (sri seva credit). I'm still planning a to provide additional information, because Prosper has size limits for homepages. http://www.prosper.com/public/groups/group_home.aspx? group_short_name=srisevacredit tom Ammachi, nierika wrote: > > > Dear Tom and Prajna ~ I too, Prajna, was very sorry to hear about your > accident, and, aside from your car, I pray that you are physically okay.
