There are 100s of books available on dream interpretation and all

of them are based upon one fact -hidden desires. The explanations

given for dreams in those books, may be true for a common person but

certainly not for those who are on the path of sadhna.

I remember once i saw a horrible dream. I had just started my sadhna

and was unaware of its purgatory effects. In a dream i saw myself all

burnt and wounded and I was wandering on the streets. all the books I

consulted, gave a negative effect of this dream. Incidental Pandit

Ashok jee, head Priest of Gangotri temple, visited our house the next

day. When he met me he asked what happened why I was so sad. I told

him about the dream. His first question was If I am doing some beeja

mantra japa. When i asked him the reason for asking this he said,"

Look dreams have a different meaning if one is on the path of serious

sadhna...dreams have different meaning for a sadhaka and a different

meaning for those who are not doing sadhna. This particular dream if

seen by a non-sadhaka will mean a distressful future, some loses and

bad news BUT for a sadhaka, it would mean, old bad karma being

burnt...injury to the egoistical body and progress in Sadhna. And his

theory was later confirmed by many higher souls whom i met and by my

own experiences.

Our inner-self, the sakshi present in us watches us one-pointedly

and notes all our actions. When we are new on the path, HE sends us

certain signals to guide us or warn us on the path. Since we have

not yet developed our faculties to receive the signals directly, HE

passes these signals to us through visions and dreams. If we are

doing any sadhna, we should thus be very open to our dreams. We may

get great hints for our sadhna through our dreams.

The best way is to keep a note-book and pen handy near the bed, and

in the morning, we should make a habit of writing details of any

dream we remember. We should write the details of dream, its

approximate duration and whether our sleep was disturbed by the dream

or not. I have noticed that those dream which come as a signal from

our Higher self...always disturb the sleep for some time. It may be

due to great joy found in the dream or some shock we got...but we

will be disturbed. Soon we will have a record of our dreams and we

will be surprised to find how dreams are taking shape, as our sadhna

progresses.

There are some dreams which have clear signals/indications about

our sadhna. Like those who are into shakti sadhna will soon see

dreams of lion lionesses or cubs. If the lions are peaceful and are

not attacking us...it would denote our shakti japa is going fine and

Mother is happy with us...if they attack us it would denote there is

some serious fault with our sadhna...mostly concerning purity of

thoughts or wrong way of japa.

Similarly dream of flying in the air is also seen by most of the

sadhaka. For a common man it denotes loses and abortion of

plans..but for a sadhaka it means..we are making progress. Dream of

flying for a sadhaka occurs when our Tamo guna reduces and pranic

body is a little free hence it wanders on the astral planes and we

see dreams of flying. However, if we see flying low and seeing

roads, buildings farms etc it may denote we are still attached to

wordly things and some more Vairagya is required.

Many sadhaka see snakes too in early days of sadhna. A snake for

a sadhaka denotes bad thought waves. However, if we are doing japa

of Shiva Mantra, seeing snakes is a good sign and denotes progress.

If we see dreams in which we listen music of Mridungam, conch or

sea waves...it is a sure sign of progress.

If we see a dream in which we are given some advice by some

elderly man/woman...we must follow the advise carefully because it is

our higher self which is trying to tell us something.

Seeing ourselves Dead in dreams, is a great sign for a sadhaka.

This normally denotes that a great leap has been achieved by a

sadhaka and soon Universal system will provide us with the second

stage of our sadhna.

Visiting a temple/holy place by sadhaka denotes there is need

of more faith (Shraddha) in his sadhna.

Seeing toilets, excreta or any such dirty things by sadhaka

means there are some bad vrittis still hiding which are hindering the

path of sadhana.

so if we start noting down our dreams and keeping an eye over the

progress in sadhna, we will soon be able connect our dreams with our

sadhna and our progress will be faster..when we start working on

these subtle signs and change accordingly.

Babaji,

Shivaya Nama Aum,

With ref to your post on dream interpretation, i would like to

clarify certain things.

I am not a sadhaka.

But i do pranayam for my spinal stress problem, which gives a great

remedy from offshoot in blood pressure and mental stress.

The main thing is i hear to Thiruvasagam ( Sivapuranam ) regularly

and as well repeat the same and get very involved.

Usually i hear to this regularly in the early mornings.

Now a days i have started hearing this and repeat it when i go to bed

before sleep as well ( not regularly but twice or thrice a week when

ever i feel like ).

On these particular days i dream very badly ( like i get caught doing

some crime or losing someone really close to me) and often i remember

the dreams next day. ( normally i donot remeber the dreams the next

day). another point is on these day i get up very early the next

morning around 4 am. ( usually i go to sleep listening to

Thiruvasagam around 12 midnight ).

Am i all right or is this practice wrong?

Answers well come from any members who are knowledged

Thanks and Best Regards

Senthil.

Om shivaya Namaha.

Perhaps by Sadhaka here you mean Regular Sadhak ! because the

chanting of Shiva-Purana itself is a sadhna

since you do not do it regularly, daily at same time same place,

it is broken sadhna. But this Japa is certainly having a positive

effect on you (together with the pranayama u do)...because the dreams

you mentioned clearly indicate that when you sleep after this

japa/reciting, the Kundalini releases a little amount of energy which

shakes the chakras and the negativity in them is disturbed, which

your mind sees as disturbing dreams !

and since you are not regular, no direct effect is seen. If you

start afresh a simple sadhna, regularly, you will in the beginning

see many such disturbing dreams, which will subdue slowly with the

progress.

Seeing disturbing dreams during the beginning days of sadhna is

a very good sign

Like Babaji has said, for a Sadhak, seeing bad dreams is actually a

good sign. We have lot of small bad Karmas, which are destroyed in

dream. So for example if a policeman was to harrass you & steal your

money, this will happen in a dream, you will be humiliated, but then

you will wake up & find no harm has been done. These dreams happen in

the beginning, & may continue for a few years, depending on power of

Sadhna.

This is a well known fact in Astrology too. Many people get very good

Dashas, but see no benefit, as their planets are weak & they get good

results in their dreams only. As the Deities like Shiva, Vishnu ,Kali

etc are much more powerful than the Planet Lords, they can weaken your

bad karma so only get punishment in your dreams.

Hi

I frequently have dreams most are mundane but a few are frightning but none have been like this one

before the Dreams discussion goes cold i would like to state this particular dream

Yes i did once have a dream in which i was dead.

The dream started like this ....

I was in a different town as my wife and son was not here when i died.. I did not see how i died but i realized i was dead and with out a body.I was not frightened but i was anxious that my wife should come and claim my body and do antimsankar as soon as possible. I knew this would take some time and i wanted it to happen quickly. My body was kept in a sack with a number written in red , i did not see my body or the face but i instintly knew without dought that my body was in that particular sack, Yes there were several other sacks with bodies there but i knew which one was mine automaticly.I did not feel sad at all but got more anxious after visiting the place where the bodies were kept. After this i started keeping watch on every vehical that crossed a bridge over which any one comming to claim the bodies will come to go to the building where the claim has to be made. I was looking out for my wife and relatives to arrive and atlast they did as soon as there jeep came

over the bridge i went in and travelled with them.At last the jeep stoped infront of the building where my wife had to do the paper work.My wife got out to go to the building and others went different direction may be to make arrangments.Till now i was quite but now tried to talk to her saying

hurry up i am uncomfortable till my body was there and antisanskar not done ..But she(my wife) cold not here what i said and continued walking

at this point i felt a bit sad ...and my dream stoped , i woke up.

After waking up i was very calm ..and felt fresh as if i am relived of some thing. i was not at all sad or frightened or angry . i sat in bed for soem time thinking about it.

Till date i have not told any one about this dream not even my wife as she may feel sad.

I suppose the 1st point to consider is, as Babaji has written, do you

do any serious Sadhna, as the interpretation of dreams depends largely

on the make & spiritual progress of a person?

If you are not a regular sadhak, then this dream may mean, your

Antakaran is in a real hurry to ride the ladders of spirituality,

whereas the karmic debts of the family are stopping you.

If you are a regular sadhak and are some exercises which affect

kundalini, this dream denotes the death of Negativity from your

Muladhara Chakra..hence a good news

For pure materialistic people self-dying brings a lot of material

benefits...like new house, or promotion/change in job etc.

I think the first case is propably applicable in my case many a times i have felt the

urge to do sadhana whole time living in some ashram in himalayas but as i am married with a

small son that is not possible even then i do mantra japa almost regularly.

Thanks for the insite into dreams
