Hi

Recently I viewed in a astro site that gems have also Cabochon cut and they are less expensive

This may be beneficial for some expensive gems like Emerals,Ruby etc..

I want to ask the learned members of this group whether the cabochon cut of a gem when worn shall give the same results in terms of refraction and other parameters

Thanks

---Dear Sriman,

Cab cuts are just as powerful as facet cutting, it's only a matter of

beauty. But cabs have a bad name because it's a styles usually used

only with low quality junk stones. But if you cut a perfect flawless

gem in Cab cut it is just as potent... and in some opinions more

attractive that facet cut. Not everyone likes sparkle, and not every

gem can sparkle (if the quality is too low).

In my career I had some clients who had me get facet cut clean gem

material recut into cabachon...because they preferred that look.

So, if the gem is jyotish quality then any gem can be cabachon with

out difference in effect.

Best wishes,Richard

Hello, members,

I am doing this business, selling of Birth stones since 1980, and I assure all the members that the stone=gems like emerald, ruby, coral in cabachons forms, they are giving same affact.. while sunraise should pass from the stone and /or it may touch to the body then they will give the same effect.

Moreover you know coral and pearl stones are always in Cabachon form so it prove that cabachon form are also efffective.

All the best, best of Luck,

Warm regards;

Lalit.

Dear Sriman,

Namaste!!! It's like, How do we know if a house window is dirty? We just look and see. In case of "transparent" gem you shine a pen light

sideways into the gem and the gem will light up and any flaws will stand out and be visable to the naked eye.

Some material, like red coral, you just look for surface defects

because such gems are not transparent.

In the case of rubies emeralds, etc., they must be transparent... if NOT, that means junk (like Mysore star rubies, or Hyderabad rubies... such junk cannot be called ruby, because ruby is transparent red corundum).

Any gem lab can give you a clarity grade certificate, and Jyotish

quality is 100% (F) clean down to 80% (VSI2) clean... below that is junk.

The above is true for facet cut gems as well. Cabachon is just a cutting and polishing style that can be used on any stone.

Best wishes,

Richard
