0235.[A devotee has asked how a nation can hold on to love when its

enemies are preparing to attack.] "In order to fight without

attachment, the battle must be waged not against the evil-doer but

against the evil. The fighting is not against an egoistic person in

the opposite army but against the ego, the destructive force. It is

not out of hate that you fight but out of detachment and love - that

is, detached love or love without attachment." - Vol.4 p250

0236."All wars and all conquests arise from the ego, in most cases

the national egos, the collective egos of a nation. Rarely is it

personal egos. Whenever there is a conflict, it is between two big

collective egos. Each side may shout at the top of their lungs that

they are fighting for the common good, for the protection of the

nation's freedom, for the peace of all humanity, and so on. But if

you penetrate to the real cause, you will find that it is their egos

fighting." - Vol.4 p251

0237."Pure love sees oneness; it sees no caste, creed, sect or

religion. Pure love can fight, kill or destroy; yet there is no

hatred in it, only love. When pure love fights, it is not one person

fighting with another. It is the higher nature fighting against the

lower nature. Pure love has no form. Even if there is a form, that

form is only for the sake of having a name to identify it, such as

Krishna. Behind that form is the formless love because love has

consumed the form in its flames." - Vol.4 p252

0245."If you are good, if there is goodness in you, you should be

able to see goodness in everything. You see the bad in others

because there is bad in you. Children, try to realize this truth.

Do not point at the faults and errors of others. Realize your own

mistakes and try to correct them. Let your own errors, your own ego,

become a burden to yourself, not to other people. … "Only when we

become aware of the burden of our own ego will we be able to remove

our faults. At present, we cannot bear someone else's ego or

mistakes, but ours is all right. `My ego is beautiful, but his is

ugly.' This is our present attitude, and this attitude should go.

… "Children, try to be humble. We are here to see God in others, not

the evil or ignorance in them. That is what our practice should be.

… "The feeling of `other' should go. That feeling is due to the

ego. Try to see oneness, the whole. Seeing the parts is ego, but

seeing the whole is egoless. Seeing the branches, leaves, fruits and

flowers as separate, we forget the tree. To perceive the branches,

leaves, fruits and flowers as separate is ego. To see the tree as a

tree, as a whole, is perfection." - Vol.4 p264

0249."Mother does not see parts. Mother sees only the whole. Mother

sees only God, the Supreme Atman. Mother cannot do otherwise.

Children, seeing `the other' will divide us, but seeing the whole

will lift us to the undivided state. Therefore, try to be egoless;

try to be humble." - Vol.4 p265
