A NEW THING ABOUT CROSS-POSTING

CROSSPOSTING is something I had not paid a lot of attention to until

recently ;-)

I noticed one interesting thing that I was not aware of or paying

attention to!

There are two kinds of responders, those that use the web-interface

(like yours truly) and those who receive webmessages by email and hit

return from their email program (Outlook etc).

When replies are sent from web-interface you only post your reply to

the website (mailing list).

But when you reply through your email program you must be careful

because your reply may go to all the lists that the original post you

are responding to was sent to!

If A posts a message to five forums

And B responds to that <one> message!

If B was using webposting, he would his posting would be going only

to the webforum he is responding to.

If B was using email like outlook, his posting would be going to all

the forums that A was posting his email message to!

If B is not a member of those forums, his reply will not be posted at

all those site. If he is a member his replies would be posted as

potential cross postings! So Caveat!

'A' might be doing this innocently or out of lack of internet

understanding ...

Ah Puzzle solved! What a good feeling!!
