Guest guest
Om Hrim Namah Sivaya, Dear brothers and sisters, Amma says it's good to know the nature of things and to use them properly according to their functionality. Perhaps, the thing that is most misunderstood and used inappropriately is the ego. So, I searched the Dear Amma text and extracted all of Amma's Words on the nature of ego( about 14 pages !!! ) Of course, Amma's most favorite word is LOVE which is our true nature. But, ego is what we identify with; it's our false nature. So, Amma's Words on the nature of ego is to help us surrender our false nature( ego ) and awaken to our true nature( LOVE ). I will continue to post a few of Amma's quotes at a time; anyone wishing to receive OFFLINE all 14 pages( Amma's Words on Ego.doc ), pleas email me OFFLINE. Thanks. There are, of course, many other of Amma's Words on the nature of ego not contained in Dear Amma text. I encourage others to share( post ) these and any other comments and experiences. Thank you very, very much. Amma Bless, amarnath Amma on the Nature of Ego( #4 ): 0216."Children, whether it is spiritual love or worldly love, love remains love. The difference is only in depth and degree. Even if love has a worldly touch in the beginning, it can reach the highest peak of purity if it becomes one-pointed and selfless. … "Pure love has nothing to do with the body. It binds and unites the soul of the lover with the soul of the beloved. But as Mother said before, pure love does involve a tremendous amount of self-sacrifice. At certain points it may cause great pain, but pure love always culminates in everlasting bliss. … [A devotee has asked why there is so much pain and suffering in pure love]. "Because what is impure should become pure. All impurity should melt and disappear in the heat of the pain of separation and longing. This suffering is known as tapas. The Gopis became totally identified with Krishna through this pain. Their pain was so excruciating and intense that their individuality disappeared completely and they merged with their beloved Krishna. The impurity is the feeling of `I' and `mine,' the ego." - Vol.4 p244 0219."The ego cannot be eradicated unless one puts it in this furnace of love. Love is heat and cold at the same time. It consumes you first. That consuming is a bit painful. But if you have the power to withstand the pain, you can relax and experience the heart's soothing coolness and the oneness of love." - Vol.4 p245 0220."Pure love removes all negative feelings. Destroying all selfishness, it expects nothing but gives everything. Pure love is a constant giving up - giving up of everything that belongs to you. What really belongs to you? Only the ego. Love consumes in its flames all preconceived ideas, prejudices and judgments, all those things which stem from the ego. Pure love is nothing but the emptying of the mind of all its fears and the tearing off of all masks. It exposes the Self as it is. …."For the lover to wholeheartedly receive and welcome the beloved, pure love prepares the mind by chasing away all the enemies of love. This results in a constant flow of the lover's heart towards the beloved. There is an unquenchable thirst to drink in the beloved, an unappeasable hunger to eat him up and an immeasurable intensity to become love. It is the death of the ego to live in love. … "It is the death of the ego to live in love. But once you attain unity with the beloved, then there is only peace, love, light and silence. All conflicts end and you shine forth in the radiance of Supreme Love. In order to attain this highest kind of love one has to undergo some pain. But that pain is not pain when you consider the unending flow of bliss which you are going to gain when you reach the goal." - Vol.4 p246 0226."Pure love is the best medicine for the modern world. This is what is lacking in all societies. The root cause of all problems, from personal problems to global problems, is the absence of love. Love is the binding factor, the unifying factor. Love creates the feeling of oneness among people. It unifies a nation and its people. Love creates a sense of unity while hatred causes division. Egotism and hatred cut people's minds into pieces. Love should rule. There is no problem which love cannot solve. … "In the modern age, human minds are dry. Too much reasoning has spoiled the contemporary mind. People use their intellects for everything. They have lost their hearts and their faith. Beauty lies in the heart. Beauty lies in faith and faith dwells in the heart. Intellect or reasoning is necessary, but we should not let it swallow the faith in us. We should not allow the intellect to eat up our heart. … "Intellect or reasoning is necessary, but we should not let it swallow the faith in us. We should not allow the intellect to eat up our heart. Intellect is knowledge, and knowledge is ego. Too much knowledge means nothing but a big ego. The ego is a burden, and a big ego is a big burden." - Vol.4 p248
