Guest guest
dear shiv bhakts om namo bhagawate rudraya the significance of deepavali are many such as: 1. coronation of lord rama in ayodhya after killing ravana. 2. to ward off bali. 3. to guide way to the departed souls who visit the homes. 4. to welcome goddess of wealth laxmi who visit the homes. 5. to celebrate the death of demon narakasura. 6. to honour goddess kali. 7. to ward off yama by litting lamps. 8. to remember the lessons taught by yama to nachiketa. 9. in another group, someone posted a belief that parvati played dice with shiva on this day. hence that poster said that it has turned into a belief or custom that parvati has blessed anyone to succeed in gambling if played on the deepavali day. but i have not yet found any such reference in the classics yet. however, there is another story related to lord shiva. once the twin demons shambhu and nishambhu have defeated indra and the devatas took refuge at the feet of shiva's wife durga. then came the ferocious form of kali who killed all the demons and wore a garland of thier skuls. since no one was able to stop the ferocious killing of kali even after all demons were killed, lord shiva laid himself in front of her and when goddess kali put her feet on the chest of lord shiva, she calms down and the protruded tongue was in shock of her putting feet on her lord shiva. some books write that the tongue was to show the red colour because she drank the blood of the demons. since then on the kartik amavasya kali worship is done to invoke the grace of goddess kalli. since lord shiva has proved that there is no difference between shiva and shakti, those who worship lord shiva will naturally get the blessings of the shakti and hence on the shubh deepavali day, worshipping lord shiva would get as much benefit as that of worshipping shakti. the entire kartik month is auspicious for the devotees of lord shiva and chanting his name every day during this month gets the grace of lord shiva. with best wishes and blessings for a happy deepavali to all members pandit arjun 9948892439
