Guest guest
Ego is the only obstacle to Self~Realization. Here are some of Amma's words on ego from DearAmma text; there are a total of about 14 pages on ego; #3: 0193."Children, the pain that you feel upon being reprimanded for an error is not the fault of the person who scolds you. Pleasure and pain belong to the ego. Your ego is hurt, that is why you feel pain." - Vol.4 p207 0194.[Mother is explaining why we feel hurt when we are scolded by anyone.] "Somebody pointed a finger at your ego, and you cannot bear it. You feel hurt because your ego is questioned. Feeling that your self-importance is being diminished, you react negatively because you cannot tolerate it. You cannot see anything but your own little selfish self and the small world created by your ego." - Vol.4 p208 0195.[Mother is explaining to a brahmacharin why we feel hurt when we are scolded by anyone.] "Just what do you think of yourself? Do you think that you are a perfect soul? No, you are not. You are just a limited ego. You can attain perfection, but for that to happen, you need guidance. You need to be corrected. You need to be disciplined. That is what a disciple must undergo. If you do not allow somebody, and this `somebody' means a Guru, to work on you, then it is difficult for you to be transformed." - Vol.4 p208 0199."To speak requires an ego. In the case of a Perfect Master, He has to create an ego to speak and to teach. But when the Guru speaks, He speaks out of His own experience; that is what He puts into words. His words do not distort the Truth. To make the Guru speak, the disciple, the devotee or whatever questioner, should put forth sincere questions. They should be guided by the quest to know. Before a serious seeker, the Guru cannot remain silent. He must speak." - Vol.4 p213
