darshan in London

Dear Lights of Love,

It was a beautiful time in London with Amma. So many things happen so

quickly that one´s mind and spirit have little time to comprehend what

is unfolding.

On the second evening of the program I was on my way for darshan. I

stopped at the table selling flowers and fruits to pick up something

to give to Amma. I was thinking about getting a lime, as it would be

very easy for me to put in my pocket and take up to darshan, as my

right hand, both legs, back, and my brain are quite lame, so to say.

But, I thought to myself that a lime is so sour and maybe not

appropriate to give to Amma. Rajeshvari ( a very nice and helpful

devotte from Vancouver,B.C.) was doing seva at the flower table and I

spoke with her about this. She said that she had heard that it was

very auspicious to give the Guru a lime, as it represents giving one's

ego to the Guru. After hearing this I decided to take the lime.

As an aside here, I am an Icelandic citzen, but my mother tongue is

English, and in years before Geeta has always known this, and gotten

this point correct .

As I came to Amma for darshan I offered Her the lime, and inwardly

begged Her to take my ego.

To my surprise Amma took the lime and took the most ferocious bite out

of it that I could imagine ( a Kali bite if I ever saw one). Then She

pulled me into Her arms for darshan, and I could hear Her chewing the

lime for what seemed a long time, to this apprehensive daughter; the

sound of Amma chewing the lime was very loud in my ears and it seemed

that it was hard for Her to chew it , and I was wondering if She was

going to spit the chewed lime out at me , or something like that, as

my ego is very foul and awful.

At the same time Geeta was saying to Amma that I was Icelandic.

Then Amma let go of me , and She looked at me and very clearly and

loudly said " Elsku " to me, waiting for my response. So, I said

"elsku", to Amma. Then, Amma even more emphatically , taking care to

pronounce the word slowly , said " ELSKU " to me.

I again said elsku ( pronouncing the word slowly) to Amma, thinking

that Amma was probably trying to teach me a word in Malayalm . Then

Amma carefully pronounced the "sku " of the word elsku, which I

duitifully repeated. Again, She said "sku" to me, more loudly then

before, and I again pronounced "sku", doing my best to get the correct

intonation and pronounciation of the syllable that Amma was repeating

to me. This scenario with Amma repeated again, until Amma seemed

satisfied with my pronounciation, and signaled for the next person to

come for darshan.

As I was moving away from the line, I asked Geeta what Amma was saying

to me. Geeta said that she did not know , as Amma was speaking Icelandic.

Oh, oh, oh, then did my mind and body start to do fuzzy loops

and spin, and go round and round. Stupid me, .......my whole thinking

was turned upside down.

I tried to balance myself to stand, using one of my crutches, but my

legs and head strated to swim, and this daughter was not grounded. An

Icelandic devotee, Jona, was nearby, and she came to help steady me

and get me out of the way of the darshan line. I was really out of

balance physically and mentally. Jona asked me if I was feeling

spiritually very elevated, and I answered, " no ", that I was out of

balance, and somehow trying to get myself together ( and it took me

quite awhile to feel steady and grounded again, and for my legs to

stop wobbling).

During my darshan Amma was teaching me to say elsku.

Amma said "Elsku" to me.

Elsku is the word for love in Icelandic, which of course I knew but

did not put 2 and 2 together during my darshan, as it did not dawn on

me , that Amma was speaking Icelandic to me. I only understood this

after Geeta told me that Amma was speaking Icelandic to me.

This devotee is still trying to understand the depth of Amma's Love,

and the meaning of all that happened in this darshan. This child is so

very gratefully to have Amma as my Mother, Who loves me so very much,

and that She would bite into my ego even though it is so very, very sour.

JAI MA !

With warm regards to all of my brothers and sister,

( I miss you all )

In Amma's Love,
