Guest guest
Ego is the only obstacle to Self~Realization. Here are some of Amma's words on ego from DearAmma text; there are a total of about 14 pages on ego; second page: 0127."It is a pity that most people who are in the field of scriptural study pursue intellectual learning without applying what they've learned in their own lives. They think that they have reached the goal, but as far as their actions are concerned, they are no better than a non-believer caught up in the world of likes and dislikes. They are full of ego. They don't know that the words which they have been studying and repeating in their heads have actually created a big wall between themselves and God." - Vol.4, p122 0175."In this merging with the beloved deity the small 'I' disappears, for the mind stops functioning. Through constant remembrance of the Beloved you become Him. He becomes your food and you eat Him. Now the food that we all take in is a variety of objects. Through the sense organs we partake of pleasurable objects - seeing desirable things with the eyes, hearing nice sounds or flattering words with the ears, smelling exotic fragrances with the nose, tasting delicious food with the tongue in the mouth, and touching and being touched or caressed, which is felt by the skin. All of these are a form of eating, eating which makes one's ego puffed up." - Vol.4 p186 0176.[Mother is talking of "eating" (absorbing) sense objects versus "eating" (absorbing) God through devotion.] But this kind of eating, this partaking of sense pleasures, stops when you eat your Beloved. Then, the feeding of the mind with sense pleasures gushing in through the sense organs automatically stops. A constant process of spiritual purification takes place within you via another simultaneous process of giving up what you claim as 'I' and 'mine'. Those pleasurable objects cease being separate objects when you eat your Krishna, Rama, Devi, Jesus or Buddha. When you stop partaking of sense pleasures but start eating Him through those objects, diversity ends. Your Beloved becomes your food; no matter what you partake, it is your Beloved, and thus you become One with Him. Only Oneness exists." - Vol.4 p187 0177."Only when you are not so attached to the world will it be possible to remember God." - Vol.4 p187 0178."Holding onto the world will obstruct the rememberance of God. But once you become established in this remembrance, you will see and think of everything as God. Life in the world cannot be an obstacle once God is enshrined in your Heart. So bind Him with the rope of love. If you forget all about yourself, then all that you see, smell, taste, and touch will be Him. Thus you become one with Him. Your little world of ego disappears and you become the Pure Self." - Vol.4 p187 0179."Love makes one forget all things. Our selfless, innocent love is the greatest offering that we can give to the Lord. It is the most delicious food for God." - Vol.4 p188 0183."Love is a constant, uninterrupted and unbreakable flow. Compassion is like a stream, a never-ending stream. It never hurts anyone. Hurting is the nature of human beings. Love never hurts. Compassion never hurts. But we hurt people because we have egos. …."The Guru is neither an ego nor is He egoless; He is beyond these. Neither the clouds nor the sky, the Guru is beyond them. He simply is. You can see your suffering reflected in the Guru, and you can see your happiness reflected in Him. He, however, is neither happy nor unhappy. He is like a mirror. The ego, on the other hand, cannot reflect anybody's feelings. An ego is clouded, unclear and dusty. It cannot see anything; it is blind. The ego cannot see others. The ego sees only you, the little you alone." - Vol.4 p200 0185."The Guru is not an ego. He is the universe. He is everything. He can accommodate anything and everything. You can see His external form but not what's inside. Internally, He is inaccessible. The Guru is unpredictable. You cannot say that He is like 'this' or like 'that'. You really can't even say what an ordinary human being is like, let alone a Guru, who is extraordinary. Yet while He is extraordinary, He is ordinary too. He is both. Don't try to label or judge Him." - Vol.4 p201 0192."This Ashram is a real kalari, a place where warriors train for martial arts with sword and shield. You should become real warriors, really courageous ones." - Vol.4 p206

Guest guest
Here are a few more quotes from the Dear Amma software. 0432. "A true devotee completely surrenders to God. He longs for God to kill his ego. That he will not be able to surrender to God or that God won't destroy his ego is a true seeker's greatest fear. Look at the fierce form of Kali. Kali is the destroyer of the ego. Because a true seeker wants to be free from the ego, he will love this aspect of the Divine Mother. Surrendering to Kali or to what she represents, a true devotee will happily offer his head to Her in order to add one more head to Kali's garland of skulls." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.6, p212 0405. "Children, do not die unconsciously. Learn to die consciously. If you learn to die consciously, you can decide what you should be, where you should be and how you should be in your next life. Or if you do not want to come at all to this world, that too is possible." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.6, p18 0406. "Children, learn to die in bliss. Just as you celebrate your birthday, let death and dying become a moment of great celebration and bliss. Learning to die in bliss is meditation. This can happen only if you learn to cease to cling while living. Through meditation you can exercise ceasing to cling, ceasing to grasp. Your entire life should be a preparation to die happily, for only when you have learned to be willing to face death happily can you live life happily. Because then you will realize that death, like life, is also a truth. You will realize that death is not complete annihilation, but complete freedom from the grip of ego." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.6, p19 0407. "Children, learn to accept death, welcome death, and say hello to death. Be friendly with death and death will become your friend. Once you learn to receive death, fears of all kinds disappear, and you will begin to live in real peace." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.6, p20 --- amarnath <anatol_zinc > wrote: > Ego is the only obstacle to Self~Realization. > Here are some of Amma's words on ego from DearAmma > text; > there are a total of about 14 pages on ego; > second page: >
