Guest guest
Om Ganapathy, you're blessed to find the mala passed down from your grandfather that went missing. Finding it is a good sign that you should wear it. The long-standing, tried and tested method (through centuries) rule of thumb for cleaning a rudraksh mala is: a) Its not advisable to use soapy solution to cleanse the beads as soap dries the beads drastically. b) Its best to dip them in lukewarm water for 12 - 15 hours. Then take a plastic brush (with hard bristles) to scrub off the dirt and grit that's been accumulated in the beads. c) Then let the beads dry in the shade. When thoroughly dry, apply some oil (olive or sandalwood oil) with a toothbrush only on the outer surface of the beads. d) Then let the beads soak in the oil for a few hours before taking them out of the container. e) Drain off the oil on a piece of cloth or paper kitchen towels. There is no need to wholly dip the beads in oil.
