Dear Wendy ji and others,

I have a close friend and I want to gift her something

nice when she files back to Bangalore in December for

Christmas.

Birth Data

Miss J

01/Sep/1972

01:30 PM IST

Calcutta

22 n 32; 88 e 22

Dhanur Lagna (05 degrees, 14 minutes)

I have absolutely no knowledge on stones, so I request

your guidance.

My own analysis:

Stones are best prescribed for the lords of the 1st,

the 5th or the 9th. However, the lords of the 5th and

the 9th are in the star of 6th lord Sukra, so I don't

find this such a good idea.

I thought - who not for Lagnadipati Guru? After all,

while he is strongly placed in Moolatrikona, he is

nevertheless afflicted because of aspect of 6th lord

Sukra. Also, since Guru aspects the lords of the 5th

and the 9th besides these houses, strengthening him

will improve these houses as well.

This friend is highly religious, and I feel that a

stone for Guru will enhance her religious beliefs,

especially since Guru is associated with all the three

Moksha Bhavas as under:

4th: Guru owns this house.

8th: Guru is placed in the star of Moksha Karaka Ketu,

who occupies the 8th, and whose dispositor Chandra is

Uccha. There is also Parivartana between Guru and Ketu

at the Nakshatra level.

12: Guru aspects 12th lord Kuja, and Kuja in turn

aspects the 12th.

So, is Yellow Sapphire mounted on a gold ring

advicable?

My specific questions:

a. Is the above analysis correct?

b. What should I tell the jeweler? I don't understand

gem jargon, so please spell this out! :-) Please

provide both English and Sanskrit names for the gem,

so that there is absolutely no confusion when I

communicate with the jeweller.

c. Does the size of the gem matter? I want to give a

small gem because my friend has very tiny hands.

Many thanks in advance.

Dear Balaji,

Yes, I think Jupiter's stone (pushparaga or yellow sapphire) is a good

choice. As Lagna is considered to be both a kendra and a trikona, it's lord

is always auspicious, and, in this case, lagna is Jupiter's moolatrikona

sign.

I'm afraid I don't know of any gem suppliers in India that I can vouch for.

I've checked Maharishi gem distributors (worldwide) but there doesn't seem

to be one in India. You can take a look for yourself:

http://www.jyotishgems.com/html/international.html

Another reputable dealer (as far as I know) is:

http://www.planetarygems.com/yellowsapphirepage.htm

PS: Apologies for not being able to respond to your previous mails, I was

bogged down with work here at the time :-(

//Does the size of the gem matter? I want to give a

Quality/purity is more important than size.

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Wendy

Yes, set in gold.

If I were buying a jyotish gem the last place I would go would be to a

jeweller. Of course I can't speak about jewellers in India (I'm referring to

Australia). The stone should be visibly clean i.e. without visible flaws,

and this is why I would not buy from a jeweller (not here anyway) as they're

very clever at hiding flaws. I think the sanskrit name for yellow sapphire

is 'pushparaga'?

Perhaps other members can advise a reputable gem dealer in India...

Good! So, I just have to tell the jeweller "I want a

The stone should be set so that it touches the skin (is next to the skin).

Wendy ji,

I was just checking out this page:

http://www.jyotishvidya.com/gems.htm

And for Guru, the specifications were:

Jupiter - Y. Sapphire; Index Finger: 3+ carats

So, I have to get a gold ring with a yellow sapphire

of a minimum of 3 carats, right?

Dear Balaji,

//So, I have to get a gold ring with a yellow sapphire

This is the recommended weight for maximum benefit. However a smaller size

of good quality is better than a large size of lesser quality. You should

get what you can comfortably afford. I will tell you a story that was told

to me; A native, advised to wear an emerald, told the pundit that he could

not afford even the smallest stone, the pundit replied, "That's alright,

wear green undergarments!"

When learning asanas at a TM retreat, Maharishi said; "Touch your toes if

you can, if you cannot touch your toes then touch your knees, if you cannot

touch your knees then (at least) point in the right direction... soon you'll

be able to touch your toes.

The point is that a small (quality) gem will be beneficial and will lead to

more benefit. No gem at all has no benefit, and a flawed gem will give only

negative results.

Mrs. Wendy
