Guest guest
Hello, I am glad to have found this group. I have been learning about Ayurveda for several years now and currently am still with some questions. This seems like a wonderful forum to explore some of these. One question that is at the top of my mind is about almonds. I understand that soaking almonds helps to make them more digestable. I have learned from a nutritionist that as long as they are rinsed well the enzyme that prohibits digestion is washed off and therefore the peeling is not necessary. And yet, in so many of the Ayurvedic texts and recipes peeling seems to be important. Can anyone tell me whether it really is necessary for digestion? Sometimes peeling is easy but othertimes can be incredibly cumbersome. Thank you, Beeara
Guest guest
Dear Beeara, When my naturopath asked me to take almonds, he asked me to take them along with the skin. And he asked me to drink the water in which the almonds were soaked. I'll try to dig up more on the issue. Regards, Jagannath. ayurveda, "B. Guest guest
Beeara I have heard my teacher, Yogi Bhajan talk about almonds a few times. He said to always peel almonds. To do this soak the almonds and then peel them when they are plump. You can also do this by putting them in boiling water, peeling them and then soaking them to make them plump. He said that people who eat almonds with skins would look like an almond (wrinkly). The skin is bitter and astringent. He gave 2 exceptions. He said menstruating women should saute almonds in ghee or almond oil and then add a little honey in the morning. The other exception is women who have just delivered. Eat the same dish in the morning. The astringent skin helps pull the uterus back in place. GB > One question that is at the top of my mind is about almonds.
