kwath preparation

Dear loveayurveda,

Kwath preparation for Asthapana vasti:

"asthapana dravya pramaanantu vihitam dwadasha prasruta"

As a general rule, the optimum dose (utaama maatra) of kashaya vasti should be 12 prasrutas=96 tulas (1 tula=12.5 grms) =1200grams.

The quantity of the kwath in total vasti dravya should be 5 prasrutas=10 palas=40 tulas=500 grms

“kashaya prasrutaan pancha"--su.chi.38-36

Acharya Vagbhata detailed about preparation of kwath, which is to be used in vasti as follows:

Take 20 palas raw drugs=80 tulas=1000 grms

Add 16 times water then boil to remain 80 palas thus we obtain 4 liters.

We obtain 4 liters of kwath though we require 5 prasrutas of kwath for vasti,.

The reason for preparing such quantity is clearly explained by acharya Chakrapani commenting in this regard in charaka samhita as

"sheshastu yadyapi nishprayoganaastadaapi maharshi vachanaadyavatpramaana

yuktam tavataiva kriyaa maanah kwathotra gunavaan bhavateeti".

Even though, the remaining quantity of the kwath gets waste, it is compulsory to prepare that much quantity in order to obtain more potent kwath to achieve maximum efficacy.

Hence, with due consideration to above description I suggest you to prepare kwath as below

Take 1kg Dashmoola in to 16-lit of water then boil to remain 4 lit (Chaturbhaga kashaya). Use desirable quantity of kwath from this

how to prepare dashmool quath practically? for yog basti kram is it ok

to administer 460 ml if yes what should be the quantity of dashmool

taken and how much water to be added to finally bring it to 460ml.
