Dear Tom,

Is there anything that you could use immediate help

with?

Are you able to go to one of the retreats this Fall,

would you need help with this?

If so, how much would you need to go?

It might be possible for others to help you get there.

I do not mean to pry, but maybe you could use a little

support.

Stacee

Yes, I could use a decent full-time job... I've had to cut my

hours back to weekends only to do a better job search. The job I

have had me working 40-48 hours for 4 months (part-time = no

benny's) but as you can see, 40-48 hours isn't exactly "part

time". Also, because I'm technically parttime, labor union rules

means they don't have to give 2 weeks notice to change my schedule,

and I was having a different schedule every week, with the schedule

only being posted 12 hours before the week started. This, along

with the midnight shift caused too much fatigue to do a real job

search.

My other problem is that I left my job at VDOT because of constant

harassment and pressure due to "blowing the whistle" on foreigner's

being harassed by co-workers right after 9/11. My background check

for Hazmat endorsement (normally 30-45 days)last year took 6 months,

shutting me out of the heating fuel truck driving season last year,

and I'm not getting any bites this year, even though I have Hazmat

and tanker endorsements.

With the whistleblowing, I was warned by a lawyer not to rock the

boat against the state, but I have my Dharma to uphold. At the

time, paranoid co-workers started carrying and brandishing sheath

knives on the job, openly expressing anger towards foreigners and

even one fight broke out with no punishment (everyone feared fights

because it was automatic firing). My efforts, which I don't

regret, have cost me greatly personally. The state did implement 2

new policies at the time of "Workplace Harrassment" and "Workplace

Violence", but most of it's up to the discretion of management.

What resulted at my workplace then was complete non-handling of any

problems to give the illusion that my grievances were "in my head".

The current 2 supervisors there now, were the biggest crybabies

when I was there, and the one is barely literate, if at all.

I take things as they come, and wouldn't have done it differently.

I'm hoping to go to the programs in Detroit, but only time will

tell. Right now there's nothing anyone can do except wait, as any

retreat won't help me.

Hi Tom,

I would go to your local EDD (Employment/

Unemployment)Office, and ask them about vocational

retraining.

Especially if they have cut your hours down. You may

be able to collect unemployment while taking a 9 month

training course in something like accounting, or

business computer programs (Microsoft Office Suite).

They do not tell you about these programs, you have to

go and research them yourself through their various

partnerships with local vocational schools and

community colleges.

There may be many other options in your area.

Amma will help you with this. You are actually in a

good position to claim unemployment if they are

squeezing you out of your job.

You can email me off list if you want.

Anyway. I have a flight voucher that you could use if

you need it. It is a one person flays free deal. If

you know someone from your local satsang who is

planning to fly to one of the retreats you could

travel with them and either split the fare, or work

something out.

Let me know as I could use it with someone in the Bay

Area if you do not want it.

Thanks, but my problems are much more than I've led on and can

discuss with anyone, that's why I mentioned the waiting (for the

karma to burn out).

A local devotee has already asked for ride-sharers for Detroit, so

hopefully that will work out. My life is in constant change, and

much of my energy is spent in adapting, along with several other

things (= treading water). For example, the uploading for my seva

requires driving through traffic, paying to use a less

than secure computer to upload, then driving back through traffic to

a library to change all my passwords that I had just used. So I try

to process the uploads in batches. My cd-drive gave out and I

recently found out it's a motherboard problem, which means no cd

usage until I get another one, not anytime soon.

I've never been to a retreat because in the "class of sevites" I'm

in, things like an Amma doll or retreat fall under "luxuries" and

available monies and energy are diverted to sevas.

Let the other person have the voucher,

tom

Aum Amriteshwaryai Tom,

I live in New York and they have a program here which is called Jamaica One Stop Center (in Jamaica, Queens, New York). You can google search it and find out all the information about it. I believe that this program is also instituted in other states.

One of the basic and important services of this program is that it provides several months of stipend while the unemployed person is learning job skills through the auspices of the program.

I hope this helps, as we are always praying and wishing well for all our fellow devotees (and as we all know, for the whole universe).
