Great Question Devon, I am also interested to know more about the celebrations!

Namasteh and blessings to all. I hope you are all well. I am

wondering, now that Navaratri is over, what, if anything you

(everyone) are doing for Diwali. As I am still 'new' to this, I was

just curious. Also, I have been told that Kali Pooja (puja?) is on

the same day/night. Is that so and if it is, then what sorts of

practices go along with it.

Thanks you for your input. I appreciate it.

Well...Since one person expressed interest in my question, however no

one was either able to or couldn't answer, I figured I'd put up some

links to what I found. Kali Puja is celebrated in some places on

Diwali. In most parts of India, Lakshmi is honored with puja on this

day, however, in others Kali is. Ganesh is honored with puja first on

all occasions. It just seems to be a concensus that I've found.

These links are related to either Diwali or the Goddess Kali.

Hope these links are useful if not enjoyable. I know I have had a lot

of fun looking around.

I am enjoying these links greatly- thank you for posting them !!

I am new to the ways of Mother Kali, so please forgive my ignorance, but

what is a Puja? Is it a ritual, a celebration??

I'm anxious to learn the ways of Mother Kali- she has been appearing in my

life a lot lately!

Thank you,

Jazmine

I'm glad you are enjoying and learning. Here is a link to good-old

Wikipedia's definition of a puja. I've seen it spelled many different

ways, pooja, puja, puuja...So, I just pick one and sometimes run with it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puja

Without reading it yet, my understanding of a puja is this: The

ceremony or ritual for a diety. Prayer, offerings, insence, stuff

like that all constitute a puja and combined also form a puja. The

approach would be different for each person because each person views

and approaches their diety/dieties differently. Some dieties have

certain historical "requisites" for offerings. I believe that the

choice to follow these would be up to you, because, for one, we can't

all afford brand new fancy bronze statues of Mother Kali each time we

want to worship or have an event of some sort. But, we can, attempt

to draw an image (as an example). This started as my definition of

puja and turned into something else didn't it...oh well..I am a gemini.

Feel free to email me if you want to chat about anything. I'm not an

expert by any means, but if we can all help eachother, then that's at

least something.
