He refers to both Sri Rudra and Sri Krishan above. What is the importance of associating names with Gods ? We all know quite well that there is only one infinite Purusha - called Brahman in the upanishads and Sri Sankaracharya said the Atman in you or me is non-different from Brahman. Some say Sri Krishna is the supreme Brahman, the Saivites say based on Rudram and Siva Purana that Lord Siva is supreme. The Bhagavad Purana proclaims Lord Krishna to be supreme. Lalita Sahasranama will proclaim Devi to be supreme. Why all these names and forms for worship ? Are they supposed to be different entities with varying degrees of powers or are they different ways to worship the same infinite - Ishvara or Brahman. In the Taittriya Upanishad, Brahman is described as "Satyam, jnanam, anantam Brahma". Now I can call "it" Siva (meaning auspicious) or I can call "it" Vishnu (meaning all-pervading). Is there any importance of personality or names here ? Kindly clarify. thanks, Om Namah Sivaya
Guest guest
Respected guruji arjunji,om namashivaya ji praddep ji and others, Namaskar. My humble two cents. The Brahman is but One, it is but the ultimate aim to achieve the Brahman that one does the sadhana. The means of achieving is the worship to the different personalities- perceptions of the Brahman- who is Nirguna. We worship the Saguna Brahman and its various manifestations/our perceptions as meditating/worshipping the Nirguna Brahman is a daunting task. In effect all are the Brahman. Whether you call *IT* the auspicious Siva, the all pervading Vishnu or the Trikaala gnana Sampanna bhuvaneswari, we are in essence only addressing the Brahman. Annamacharya, the Great Singing Saint of Tirumala, said"Enta matramu Evvaru Talachina anta matramu Nuvvu,- the vaishnavas worship *HIM* as Vishnu, saivaites as Maheswara, the worshippers of the Samaya call her Mother, the kapalikas call him Kaala Bhairava, but is He all these, He is all these and One. Pradeep ji truly said Rudra is the Most noble of All and Sarvam Krishnarpanamastu, because He is the Akhilandakoti Brihmandanayaka. But the greatest form of worship is to perceive the Atman of fellow beings, as Adi Sankaracharyar said worship the God in one and all. This is a simple way of expression as is not new but since the query was there I gave my view. My apolology for any mistakes and entreating the learned to correct me if wrong.
