Guest guest
Mutton shops of Muslims will remain closed during Navaratri Posted on 27 September, 2006 Police take notice of complaint by Hindu Rakshak Samiti. Dhule: It has been decided to keep the mutton shops closed during the Navaratri festival. The shops are right on the road leading to the famous `Ekveera Devi' temple. Thousands of devotees not only from Marathwada, Khandesh in Maharashtra but also from Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat visit the temple. The mutton shops are on the road leading to the famous temple. In the year 1990, the High Court had issued an order to close down all these shops but the orders have not been implemented. Every year, during the Navaratri festival, Municipality issues notices to the Muslim shopkeepers; but its implementation is totally ignored by the municipality as well as by the police. Shri. Hiraman Gawali, the President of Hindu Rakshak Samiti (HRS) observed the shops even this year during Navaratri. He promptly informed the Superintendent of Police and asked him to take immediate action to close down the shops. Thereafter, the Municipality reprimanded the shopkeepers with the help of the Police department and asked them to close down their shops. HRS has, however, warned that despite the Court order if the shops are run, the Committee will not tolerate such contempt of the Court.
