Guest guest
Vrat for Shiva The god who is easiest to please is Shiva, the lord who resides in the mighty Himalayas. Of the trinity of gods, he is the destroyer of life, but is easily pleased with devotees who pray for his grace and observe a fast on Mondays. Mythology abounds in stories of those who prospered because of their devotion to Mahadev. Observe these simple rules, please the god and get your wish fulfilled. Offerings: Monday is the day of Shiva. The god's favourite colour is white. He likes white flowers, white clothes and a white seat. Even his home is amidst the snow-covered gleaming white peaks of the Himalayas. When offering a puja to the god, do it with white flowers and white sweets for the naivedyam . Ritual: Shiva's devotees should observe a strict fast on Mondays, eating only after sunset. Unlike other fasts, one cannot eat in the afternoon and skip the evening meal. A rudra abhishek (ritual bath amidst chanting of mantras ) should be offered to the Shivalinga in the home shrine. During the puja , a specific number of bilva leaves must be offered to the Shivalinga. In the evening, a naivedyam of rice and curds should be offered. However, unlike usual practice, this naivedyam cannot be eaten as prasad .. It should instead be taken to a Shiva temple and given to the priest or offered to a cow. Occasionally, a Brahmin or a married woman should be invited for meals. Devotees should chant the mantra Om Namah Shivay throughout the day. I have given a general rules for all fast to lord shiv,Kindly help Mr Kanishk with more details Best wishes Shiva Shankara
Guest guest
dear shiv bhakt kanishk om namo bhagawate rudraya regret the delay in response as i was busy in various poojas and meditations due to the auspicious navaratras. every krishna (bahula) chaturdasi of the month (14th day of the dark half of the lunar calendar) is observed as masa sivaratri. in other words, this most auspicious day of the month for lord shiva occurrs a day before amavasya every month. shiv bhakts observe a strict fast on this whole day and also observe a jagaraan whole night. the ideal suggested way to observe the chaturdasi vrat in a simple manner for the present man is as follows: on the morning of the masasivaratri day, perform rudrabhishekam to lord shiva at your home or at a temple with panchamrutam and offer bilva patrams to him. if you could get and offer nagalinga pushpam, you are the most fortunate in the world. observe complete fast during the day and whole day the person leads a saatvik life without any office, business or other tensions and lead a pious life with all virtues. in the evening, an archana is done again to lord shiva and some people break the fast by taking fruits and this is optional for the natives depending on their health. some strict shaivaites also perform a homam followed by a lengthy mantra japam which is difficult for a household person and hence am not advising on the same. the most difficult part of the sivaratri vrat is that during the whole night, the native does not sleep and instead spend the whole night singing bhajans of lord shiva i.e. praising the glory of lord shiva to invoke his blessings which is also called jagaraan. the next day morning after bath, he worships lord shiva again and then breaks the fast. it is believed that lord shiva blesses his bhakts most who do fast and jagaran on the masasivaratri day. for all shaivites it is a must to perform sivaratri fast at least once in a year and hence busy officegoers and businessman who find it difficult to observe masasivaratri do observe the fast on mahasivaratri without fail. in praise of lord shiva and with best wishes and blessings pandit arjun , kanishk <kanishk wrote: > > plz tell me the rules for doing the shiv chaturdashi fast >

Guest guest
There is no end to the sadhanas and austerities one can perform. Do as much as you can and each time in the future try to do more...if you can or want to or have time to. Whatever you do for God is good and will be pleasing to the Lord, especially if done with a pure heart and pure devotion. As much as you put out and focus, you will receive, and then some. It is a reciprocal relationship. BAM MAHADEV! ---- kanishk <kanishk (AT) indusind (DOT) com> wrote: > like i am a busy office goer, is it really neccesary to keep awake in > the night?
