Best not to debate but only to discuss. however to mention a couple of things that dont sound exactly right > > The Priests at the MahaGanapati Temple in Mumbai pronounce Gum as > you say in chewing gum...... If you really listened to them carefully at the time, you would have heard correct pronunciation. they record this sound as such and it certainly doesnt mean grief......since there are many different meanings for same word in Sanskrit the context of the meaning of Gum in the Lord Ganesha Mantra may mean exactly the opposite...........that is saveing from grief............ and I have heard of no one who has complained that they have not gotten misleading results from chanting Aum Gum Ganapatayei Namaha so I can't comment on this....... Have heard of many people and some came personally to ask why they got more strife and obstacles instead of blessings. In the book Healing Mantras it sums up the meaning of the Bij Mantra Gum quite clearly. The summing up is correct due to good research but the CD lacks cadence. Maybe making a new CD for future editions of the book will lift the flatness of tone and bring correct cadence. Author of the book did a lot of research, must take my hat off to him and give respect for this. Regardless, I still respect him for his good works of 3 books. But he obviously not spent enough time, say 10 to 18 years learning only mantras from Guru-Shishya lineage. Begin by sweeping courtyard of ashram with palm leaves from one end to the other end, then back again, every single day for the first 3 years. This is the masculine seed for Ganapathi, an energy of the benevolent elephant headed God Ganesha, which removes obstacles and > brings success in endeavors. To remove obstacles repeat the seed > mantra Gum for a few days until you are comfortable with it. Then > move to the mantra Aum Gum Ganapatayei Namaha which means Aum and salutations to the remover of obstacles for which Gum is the seed. It would be kinder for the chanter to chant Saguna mantra as in "Om Shree Ganapataye Namaha" if he or she does not know correct sound of "GuNg". > > This description of Bija Mantra Gum certainly does not instill grief > in the persons life who chants......it does exactly the > opposite....it removes grief or obstacles and to date I have found > no literature that says the Bij Mantra Gum does anything > else....another difficulty with transliteration is that some words > in sanskrit can have opposite meanings depending on how they are > used in the context of the mantra or sentence. Beeja Mantras are Nirguna Mantras. Not to be used lightly unless one knows correct sound. > > If you can find any book or a Holy Book that says Gum brings grief > to the chanter it would be good to see where this is comeing > from.... No holy book mentions this but people who have experienced for themselves can attest to it. When rishes devised mantras, it was in India or their version of "Kailash" or from whichever abode and for Hindu posterity. Note to friends & members: Regarding pronunciation of "Gum" or "GuNg", pls ask a Hindu priest from Brahmin background. (Note again to friends/members: Not all priests at temples are Brahmin although the temples conveniently do not disclose this, especially temples built in western countries). If no priest is available, get a cassette tape from Ms Neetaji in India which contains correct pronunciation. I bought one of these tapes long ago to give a friend. Ms Neetaji's email is rudracentre (AT) hotmail (DOT) com <rudracentre (AT) hotmail (DOT) com> She is gracious and kind lady and will know exactly which cassette tape (its also in CD) that I'm referring to. as an aside when I was in India in 2001 we went to a Hare > Krishna Compound in Mumbai and I found it odd that Lord Ganesha was > not represented in the temple of Gods and Goddesses.....was told > later when in the US that they did not worship Lord Ganesha and I > was more than surprised to hear of such a thing..... as recently > most of the organization has gone bankrupt and they have been > accused of child abuse within their organization....so althouth the > Hare Krisha worship Lord Narasimha they left out Lord Ganesha and as > a result it seems that is not a wise thing to do. With all due respect: Each cult to their own cup of chai. They like chai variety. Others like chai with cardamom. All Gods and Ganapathi are all Keepers of Akashic Records. They bestow or withhold blessings from devotees in accordance with each individual's dharma and karma. If person has past life good samskaras, then chanting with sheer and pure Bhakti will bring results. Gods can hear and see beyond human comprehension. it doesnt > work.......as an example say I chant plate plate plate because I > need a plate to eat on however if the pronounciation is a little off > the universe will give what the person is chanting..........instead > of plate chanter got table to eat on.......so in this example the > chanter got the words .......to eat on correct however the item was > not chanted correctly and instead of plate to eat on there was > produced a table..... Out of context here, so no comments necessary from lil me. no matter the sincerity of devotion if one does > not get the communcation gap right there will be uncertain > results............since so many traditions teach precision of > pronounciation in this manner I can only conclude that you are wrong > in this matter.........is like a sincerly devoute person useing the > wrong bij mantras for different Devas.......and then wondering why > the results gotten were not the ones intended You are most welcome to form conclusions in how you feel and see fit > > Specific to Shakti the basic understanding of self empowerment and > fearless life teaches that each person has Upa Guru and Siva and > Shakti within themselves as do each of the Devas and there really is > no need to add any extra shakti to their lives by going through > mother to get to son.. Let's say you are Son and I need to ask you a favor or give me blessing. I go to your house (shrine) but totally ignore your Mother whom you love and are devoted to. In this case, I am insulting your Mother by ignoring Her or bypassing Her. Would you give me your blessings or do me a favor wholeheartedly? Would I deserve this favor or blessing from you? that is what self empowerment is all > about...to be able to accomplish by way of ones own combination of > Siva and Shakti that is already one within and without adding from > outside their original blueprint of Siva and Shakti so to > speak......go straight to the source that is Shiva and you will be > working with the most compact finite use of energy for > accomplishment that exists because all is included in Shiva Shiva is Shakti and Shakti is Shiva. Ram is Saguna Mantra. There is no Beeja mantra involved here. He only wanted male Devata aspect and he achieved it, great on him. What I'm trying to say is, if persons wishing to find only Deva aspect, its their personal choice. Others who also wish to acknowledge the Devi-Shakti are also their choice. Room for each person to their own preferences. Its not Sanatana Dharma to limit other people's choices to make them see our own fixations or force our beliefts on them. India and Hinduism conquered the world without sending a soldier across the border. > > am fairly certain we are all on same major path and because we are > all so different we all have different unique ways of expressing > ourselves so any way you wish to express yourself will work for you > even though each individual may express their own needs in a > different manner.......... All Holy Books, Om, Aum, Aom and all paths lead to the same Summit, only the roads and journeys taken are different. Ommmmm
