Guest guest
I am the first vegetarian in my blood lines in thousands of years. None of my known ancestors going back to antiquity were vegetarian. This is going to be true for most white people. I¹m not special in there. I chose to not eat meat immediately after hearing it from Prabhupada¹s books 27 years ago and avoided leather too most of that time. But in being really mentally ill, very depressed, for years, I sought help anywhere. It¹s painful to be really depressed. One help I got was a counselor who told me to research my Irish side, knowing that they have depression and addiction issues so it seems. In doing that I fell in love with the art. Eventually that took me around to their leather working, which was a huge part of their life. The old ways of Europe are wrapped in leather you could say. All¹s I can say, is it¹s beautiful, and smells good, and makes me feel good. It¹s kindof like having an animal there...it¹s like smelling the shirt of your lover...it smells good, and it reminds you of the person. When I smell raw leather, it reminds me of the cow, and makes me feel their presence. I feel love for the cow, when I work with leather. Myself, I would never kill them, so, if it were not for the meat industry, I wouldn¹t work with leather. Since they make it available from their meat eating business, I have access to it. I don¹t feel like I¹m involved in ³sin² at all in working with leather. Rather, for me, I feel like I¹m glorifying the animal, or showing it¹s beauty in a new way. Raw leather smells like a cow barn, and I like that smell a lot. I like cows and deer. I would never kill them. I love them. I love their skins. I love what their skins can do. Leather work is really a very cool art and handicraft medium. I cannot get enough of it. It¹s the one thing I really love these days. It¹s what I wish I was doing. It¹s what I would do if I didn¹t have to work. It¹s what I want to get to if I ever feel not guilty about not working on money making work ever again. Love cow, love leather, no sin, all love, this is true, it works. It¹s like, if someone kills your friend, and you keep the skull, to remember them, did you sin? If you carve designs in the skull to make it more pretty, do you sin? Some might say ³macabre²!, but they are not me. Guest guest
Rick...I was not implying that you are "sinning" by working with leather...in any way & I hope that you didn't take my words to mean that. I don't believe that it is a sin to work with skulls, bones and hides. I would never attempt to impose on you any definition of sin that I might have. It's up to God define that...not me. I don't believe that it's macabre either. You can't really control the beef industry & the fact that some people do choose to eat beef and other meats. It would seem to me that if a person rejects meat on one level...there will be a dominoe effect on the rest of the body. I would have to believe that at least some cows are slaughtered to provide for the leather industry...skirts, boots, shoes, purses, car upholstry, etc. My daughter has a beautifully tooled leather riding saddle...it's gorgeous & I know that some person in the world used alot of their time in crafting it to to be as beautiful as it is. The fact that you choose to be a vegeterian is a personal choice, and that is fine. I don't think that anyone has a problem with that. I'm not sure how to say what I thinking except in this way: If my body is allergic to penicillin...then my entire body will reject that medication. I can't choose for any of my specific body parts or cells to accept that medication individually. I can't tell my brain cells (assuming that I have any left) that it is "alright" for them to process that drug. My entire body will reject that drug...no matter what logical explanation I attempt to tell myelf. I am not sinning by atttempting to take the medication...and you are not sinning by working with leather. It would just seem to me that a person can either accept something in its entirety or reject it. I either do or I don't. A body works as a whole...body, mind, spirit. It has to all work together...or it doesn't work at all. As always, I'm just trying to be helpful...and these are some of my thoughts & opinions. I'm not trying to impose them on you or anyone else. I do see your point of view through the crystal. Das Goravani <das (AT) goravani (DOT) com> wrote: I am the first vegetarian in my blood lines in thousands of years. Guest guest
You are appreciated for leaving eating meat afterPrabhupads influence on You. But nothing great. Many have done it before You. and would be doing after You. Dont glorify it. In other paras You are showing that You love flesh and have not been able to overcome it mentally. Do this Sir. Then we will talk what You have left. I saw You on another posting asking for Laptops,etc.etc. Why ? This is mature form of begging or refined form of folding hands and asking for alms ? Dont do this. And you are offering free readings of chart ? You are a man or what ? I expect You to become better day by day. and when I come on this Forum again I wish to meet a man and not a sissy.
