Om Sri gurave Namah!

Dear Visti jee, Namaskar,

Irrespectiveof the source, what is your opinion, will these remedies work for KSY or not, it appears you have doubt about their workability, atleast two snakes of silver in way represent the eternal sarpa energy( Rahu and Ketu were intelligent enough to stand in the queue of gods while lord vishnu was distributing the ambrosia ( amrita) as mohini - Sagar manthan- where Rahu (head) got detached from Ketu the tail.) so I think by wearing the ring the native is trying to stand next to Rahu-Ketu with the gods and by placing them on the sivalinga, they are being handed over to lord shiva. -some analogy

What is your opinion about Kal Sarpa Yoga, its origin and its remedies( if any) as per your parampara.

Dear Suri, Namaskar.

The purpose of remedies is mostly to free the person from the negative

effects of the planets. If you worship a snake as a snake, you will also

associate yourself with the snake, and start taking on his

characteristics. But, if you believe that the snake is not just a snake

and is really shesha naga or ananta, then you are lifting the gunas to a

higher level and are no longer hanging around the very rajasic/tamasic

nature that the snakes carry. Remedies are supposed to lift ones gunas.

Wearing a silver-snake-ring would make sense to some astrologers in

north india, where planets are appeased by wearing the same gemstone as

the planet, but i was taught differently - i.e. wearing a ruby if you

wanto make Sun auspicious, may end up causing more harm than good if you

don't know what you are doing... increasing a planets association with

you may not be good if he is badly placed, as you are basically

increasing the negative placement.

So whilst the person may have some temporary effects from wearing a

snake-ring, i would not advise it ever, as the

This takes us to the fundamental problem with Kala Sarpa Yoga. Here i am

copying from a book-chapter that i had begun writing some time back:

Käla Sarpa Yoga

Käla Sarpa Yoga is one of the most feared yogas in Vedic astrology.

Whilst its classical reference is uncertain, it's equated to the nabhasa

yogas as it has an overriding effect on the chart, much like the nabhasa

yogas.

The remedies for this among astrologers, today range from wearing

gemstones of all planets to making a pilgrimage to the Käla Hasti temple

in Andhra Pradesh, India.

The yoga is said to envelope the native in a life of bondage, with

little success arising in life, until the yoga matures at the age of

forty. To add, the yoga has been given different names of the divine

serpents, depending on the twelve different ways the yoga can form. With

the wide range of remedies available, and a much wider range of

confusion, the tradition teaches the following:

Käla Sarpa yoga is formed when all the planets are placed in between the

two nodes of the moon: Rähu and Ketu. Thus the nodes, splitting the

zodiac in half, would have all the planets placed in the signs

in-between Rähu to Ketu, or from Ketu to Rähu. This is known as käla

sarpa yoga. There are however two variations of this yoga. The node

which is in-front of the planets is said to be the head, and if this

head is Rähu, the yoga is known as Käla Sarpa yoga. However if this head

is Ketu, then the yoga is Käla Amrita yoga.

The difference between the two is obvious from their names:

*

Käla Sarpa yoga will push one into a life of sense-objective

experience, in other words, a materialistic life.

*

Käla Amrita yoga instead puts one on the path of spirituality.

Whilst either would seem attractive depending on personal preference,

the yoga torments the native's life before giving the above path. The

native lives a life of bondage and torment between the two extremes of

material life and spirituality until the appropriate age. The area of

bondage is indicated by the house joined by the nodes.

Axis

Area of bondage

First/seventh

Fame, name/relationships and partnerships

Second/eighth

Wealth, family/debts and diseases

Third/ninth

Strife, aggression/higher education

Fourth/tenth

Home, property, happiness/work and profession

Fifth/eleventh

Subordinates, supporters and lack of the same

Sixth/twelfth

Diseases and recovery of illness, as well as enmity

The bondage experienced by the native is the superimposition of maya

onto the person in an overwhelming way. As a result the satya or truth

of the chart becomes deterred in the native, to the extent of the native

following an agenda different from that suggested by the chart. The head

of the yoga being either Rähu (käla sarpa) or Ketu (käla amrita) will

suggest which agenda.

Just as the light of the Sun removes darkness, so also truth dispels

untruth and can break the käla sarpa/amrita yoga. The houses of truth

are the first and seventh houses, which symbolize the entrance into this

world and exit here from, respectively*. Planets placed in the first or

seventh from the respective node, or in the first or seventh from the

lagna will thus be able to break the yoga and establish truth.*

If the planet breaking the yoga is malefic, then the experience of the

truth is quite terrible and can lead to sorrow or general unhappiness in

life. Contrary to this, a benefic planet doing the same, will give a

pleasant and happy experience upon the realization of truth, and escape

from bondage.

Incase of käla sarpa/amrita yoga, the astrologer should always advise

remedies of the benefic planets breaking the yoga, otherwise the success

of the native will be obstructed continuously in life. If no benefics

seem to be breaking the yoga, the strengthening of the most auspicious

among Jupiter and Venus should be advised, as these two Gurus can lead

the native out of the bondage of the yoga.

/Chart 15: Nehru/

/Chart 16: King, Larry/

/Chart 17: Author/

From above you will see that i have not come to advising a remedy.

However, the remedy is based on the (good) planets breaking the yoga, or

if none, then increasing the beneficence of Jupiter and/or Venus in the

horoscope through remedies. This should be the best saught after advise

for people.

Best wishes,

Om Sri gurave Namah!

Dear Visti jee,Namaskar

Thanks for your reply, hope you do not mind if I add few lines, for the sake of discussion and my understanding.

First: In case of remedies for grahs giving kastaphala, we have mantras, dieties, and stones and more etc.

how do they work: basically we are trying to appease the grah, through the diety or directly using stones etc.

Regarding stones there are three views,

1- We are trying to bring some thing very close to our skin which is not properly focused on to us, because of its position or situation.

My experience with emerald(clear and good one, I have created an album mystic, I think the pictures are still with the moderator)had

very good effect as my Mercury is debilitated,as I replaced it with an opaque, (not clear) emerald, things have gone from bad to worse.

2- If grah is kastadayi, it is better to keep things related with it as away as possible to avoid its negative effect, as you said it will do more harm then good.

3-In case one grah is giving negative effect, wear a stone for another grah which can counter the negative impact by increasing its positive effects, native is relieved.

I don't think there is any other angle we can see this, if you take the second view, e.g snakes ring for KSY or Emerald for Debilitated Me,it should be harmful to the native, but is it not one of the ways to appease the negative force, others being mantra, japa etc.

To reduce the effect we either worship some diety, chant some mantra or wear some stone or ring resembling the effecting grah, donate,

charity, keep a pet etc. etc. all these are ways to appease the grah or counter balance.

Take the stone itself, if by keeping close to the skin, it increase the good or bad effects, then why the stone can't help to get better focus or dristi in similar way( view 1).

If the whole thing is seen in psychological view point, A person is suffering from some ill effect, it begins from mind and reaches the body.

If the native visits a astrologer( good or bad, advanced or beginner)and comes to know the astrological reason, his worry increase psychologically speaking, and in case of a remedy, the mind rests in peace. it is a different issue if the stone is working or not, the mind psychologically leans on the remedy, only when it is contradicted, it fails.

But there may not be substantial changes in the life of the native, mind definetly rests, in that case any remedy should work, does not matter how, what and when.

What mantra is doing is also same, we are trying to resonate with the diety using its vibration, and change happens in the mind and viewpoint, native gains maturity on that particular issue, in a way we say, blessed by god.

Regarding, KSY/KAY,

Defination, its effects, cancellation, effects due to benefic and malefic grah breaking it etc are all common and I see a uniformity now.

But KSY/KAY, its uncertain history is a cause to worry, because of which, any one attempting it, is using terms like: It is said to........, it is believed...... etc.

and when you say it is most feared yoga in vedic astrology, you are confirming it that it is a part of vedic astrology, at the same time, classic reference is uncertain, this is what I am trying to underline.

Everyone of us, is trying to attempt and explain something, which has no reference or basis and actually cannot be clearly separated from normal rahu-Ketu combinations and their effects, e.g. A weak chart with badly placed Rahu-Ketu, A weak chart with well placed Rahu-Ketu,A stong chart with badly placed Rahu-Ketu, A strong chart with well placed Rahu-Ketu on one side and

A weak chart with KSY, A weak chart with KAY,A stong chart with KSY, A strong chart with KAY on the other side.

I think the effects will be same in case of weak charts but will be different in case of strong charts, not because of KSY OR kAY, but because of strong grahs, because they counter balance the ill effects, in case of weak charts it is one way directed by Rahu-Ketu(with or without KSY/KAY.

In That case remedies applicable for rahu and ketu should also apply for KSY/KAY.

The list of remedies are from Lal Kitab for Rahu and Ketu, Kala hasti temple( Near Tirupati) has a legend that A spider, sarpa and elephant worshipped lord shiva and got moksha, so did Kannapa who donated his eyes while doing kills his child, Sarpa dosha puja is conducted for a nominal fees there.

Further, If KAY yoga puts a native on spiritual path, President bush and Margaret thatcher have complete KAY, both are above 60,are they spiritual, or the option exists due to KAY,I have to find out.

One last point: how do you measure the success or failure of a remedy- purely academic interest.

Thanks!

Om Namah Shivai!
