Guest guest
On another forum nodes have been recently associated with the ancient- ness of jyotish (sine qua non)! No nodes, no jyotish -- pretty much the message claimed! As a few older messages on this forum indicated, Varahamihira did not mention the lunar nodes! He is pretty old and considered as the third leg of the tripod that jyotish stands upon: Parashara, Varahamihira and Jaimini (Am I quoting Mr. KN Rao correctly from is karma book?) What does this erudite forum say?
Guest guest
Dear Ranjan ji, Varahamihira has lot of similiarity with Greek Astrology (I recalled reading that in early 90's ) - perhaps for his origin. Yes, rahu / ketu is an integral part of jyotish (vedic astrology) - from its very begining. Perhaps for its focus on eventual destination of soul. In a way - vedic jyotish rest on Kamic planets - where rahu/ketu are considered principal factors moksha as ultimate objective of jyotish - and ketu being its permanent karaka (Jaimini as well Parashar .. I do not know about Varahamihira's version of moksha) For their age in jyotish - in my limited understanding, these two grahas are considered from the very begining. Even in Jainism (as old as vedas - as in vedas, there is reference of First few tirthankars) - Navakar Mantra's last stanza is prescribed remedy for Rahu/ketu. regards / Prafulla Gang Kaun rota hai kisi aur ki khatir e dost, sabko apni hi kisi baat pe rona aaya. ************************************************ > > jyotish_vani (AT) hotmail (DOT) com > Tue, 19 Sep 2006 04:13:04 -0000 > > How OLD are the lunar nodes? > > On another forum nodes have been recently associated with the ancient- > ness of jyotish (sine qua non)! Guest guest
Dear Rohini, You are, I think, perfectly aware that Varahamihira did mention the nodes and in Brihat Samhita goes further and says that they are not grahas with physical bodies, but the shadows on Sun and Moon. I wonder where from the gem about varahamihira not knowing or mentioning Nodes has come from and on which forum.
