Guest guest
I was reading somewhere that the diff between humans and animals is we know both our parents, and by performing Shraadh we have control of our destiny, while animals dont. Science says we have millions of those genes, but only few are useful, others are dormant. Our texts(and even the Bible) says that we are affected by 7 generations of our ancestors. Practically also angry people have angry children, greedy have greedy etc. By performing Puja for them we can remove their negative influences. Say your father was a very angry person. Since you share his genes, they will negatively influence you, even after his death, and your children for 7 generations. Now say you perform puja for him. The good effect of the puja will be he will cool down, and nature will be happy and gove him birth in some womb like Tiger where he can satisfy his anger and violence. As soon as this happens, his influence on you is removed, which means that if you too were an angry person, you will also lose some of your anger. You are responsible for yor own action, but if you have a lot of negative influences, it will be hard for you to make spiritual progress. So by performing Shraadh you are not only helping your relatives, you are helping yourself. So a person who doesnt perform Shraadh is worse than an animal. Guest guest
But shanracer, this means that with all those negative influences of our ancestors, we will never make progress.....
Guest guest
True, but remember getting Enlightenement is a very difficult job, not for everyone. You have to carry not only your own Karma, but(some) influence of Parents, ancestors, city, country, even planet Earth. For example, we are cutting down trees and killing animals. Everyone who enjoys the benefits of this has to share some Karma too. Thats why very few people make it!

Guest guest
> Shanracer, how can one carry influence/Karma of the country? You carry the Karma of your country/culture/society. For example, the Israelites, when they escaped from Egypt, slaughtered all the local tribes in the gulf. For this, they had to wait till 20th century, but finally they too were slaughtered by Hitler. The Catholic Church burnt 1000s of innocent people. The result: the Powerful church Empire(which was once all of Italy, with some France and Germany)now is just a small city, and the Pope, once as powerful as an King, now has to go around apologising to people for past mistakes. Westerners exploited India and stole our money. Now those same Western countries are sending their jobs to India, and firing their own people. The westerners are angry, but they have to pay back all the money they stole from us. Based on this alone, we can guess that India has a good future, as we havent recieved a fraction of the wealth that was stolen.
