Guest guest
maitrayeeji, you are assuming the person takes immediate birth. There is a gap, a "rest" period, when the soul spends time in the astral world, where it rests. Depending on its Karma, this experience maybe good or bad, and thats where "heaven" and "hell" coem from. > How by feeding Brahmins food reachs the dead, who dont need food ? Again, you are wrong to assume that the food doesnt reach the dead. The dead dont go anywhere, the astral world is just a parallel dimension. Also, the dead leave their mouth and stomach, but still have their sense of smell- they eat with their nose and enjoy the food that way. Thats why in almost all pujas, you burn sweet stuff. This pleases the Astral beings, who help us with our tasks. If you want to perform evil rituals like murder, you burn chillies and spices to attract the evil spirits. As to why Shraddh helps, its do do with Genes, I'll continue this in another post.
