Guest guest
Dear Forum members, We laymen and <popular press> generally use the term 'ego' to represent (false) pride, selfishness, arrogance, almost all negative qualities. Psychologists, on the other hand (are there any here that may wish to set the record straight?) use the term ego as something positive. Representing adult, mature, pragmatic, balanced behaviour, ego-strength being what keeps us farther away from mental illness, etc. When astrologers talk of 'ego' often loosely if not glibly, what are we talking about? Strength or weakness? Please all those who know, help us decipher this before we jump into astrological correlates of ego! Guest guest
Dear Ranjan, Actually what is going on , I could not follow or require more intelligence which I may not have. All I know from Scriptures and logic , specifically as per Sakhia Shastra pronounced by Kapil Muni and even referred by Lord Krishna. When the awayakt(which can not be described) came into the form of vayakat (which could be seen) due to its association with three qualities less Prakaraty(Nature) or call it Ketu. The presence of Purha/Parmatama in the Prakarity cause the birth of three qualities in this Prakarity called Sat Raj and Tam. The 1st development /encounter it has was with Mehat (intelligence call it Mercury ) this intelligence (afflicted by Rahu)created the Ahnkaar/ego which becomes the cause of creation of this universe.Due to Guna additions it is Satoguni, Rajoguni and Tamoguni. You can compare these Gunas for the variation of Ahankarr in the form of self respect /vain glorious/humble etc. The humbleness too is a proud in these terms. This intelligence/Mehat created other 11 senses that is one mind (call it moon) here I am differing or may be I am not correct in explaining as it is believed that Mercury is son of Moon. And Five senses for knowledge and Five for Work these are produce of Ahankaar due to Satoguna and and Rajoguna. The tamoguna produced the physical shape and body and house for these sences. These Five senses are expression of Sky,Air,Fire, Water and earth and thus the cause of birth of five Planets Jupiter Saturn Mars Venus Mercury . Hence all the planets can be attributed to Ego only the type of Ego will differ , because if there is no ego , no universe. Why at all this World has been created by the Lord /Parmatma when every thing which he created is destroyed. Is it not the vain glory of God? Ahkaar is cause of Avidya which is reason of work when Ahankaar is lost one arrest his intelligence. This is much above the State of Kundalini arousal.Kundalini arousal too is living within Vayakat God is knowing your Ahankaar of different types only by leaving them one will step forward his own self/parmatama/Soul. This is in lay man language , I don't know Sanskrit but what I had written is also a part of ego but I do understand all this from practice and not reading. Guest guest
Dear Ranjan In response to your queston in my experience the term 'ego' in the west generally and neutrally refers to the individual 'self' and has no connotations of good, bad or indiferent unless pre fixes or suffixes such as egocentric, egotistical etc are added. There can be different ego states such as ' transactional analysis' defines where terms such as adult ego, child ego, parent ego, free child ego, are used to tease out the variety of behaviours an individual ego can adopt when responding to events, but these are terms used in psychology which specialises in analysis of the human psyche not planets. Psychology as a discipline does not generally recognise 'soul' and prefers the word 'ego' instead in order to remain 'scientific' Most astrologers I have read use the sun to denote ego, or individual self, but wouldn't confuse 'self ' with selfish or selfless, nor would they confuse the term 'ego' with 'pride' I am sure many other astrologers on the list have their own understandings about the term ego, which may or not differ with mine. best wishes M - crystal pages Saturday, September 16, 2006 1:08 AM Ego <a question> Dear Forum members, We laymen and <popular press> generally use the term 'ego' to represent (false) pride, selfishness, arrogance, almost all negative qualities. Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah Namaste Sahni ji, > This is in lay man language , I don't know Sanskrit but what I had written is also a part of ego but I do understand all this from practice and not reading. It doesn't matter. I have come to realize belatedly that what's important is the "experience" and not the "expression", and you certainly seem to have it.
