DHARASHIV, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA, September 11, 2006: On the day of Ganesh Chaturdashi, there was a heavy stone pelting on the procession taken out for immersion of Ganesh Deities damaging the Ganesh Deity. The situation became very tense. Muslims also burnt one shop. There was stone pelting even on a mosque. Police had to call for additional contingent of Reserve Police to control the situation. In this connection, the police have rounded off many members of Ganesh Mandals and even the people who had gathered to see the procession. Around 8.30 p. m. when the procession reached Shums Chowk, suddenly Muslims started pelting stones at the procession damaging the Deity. Hindus also started pelting stones in self-defense. Many Ganesh devotees have been seriously injured. Some Muslim youths while returning from namaz set on fire a shop owned by a Ganesh devotee. The situation is very tense. There is discontent among people for arrests of innocent people who had gone to watch the

procession.
