Guest guest
"On the hearth of Space it kindled a viewless Fire That, scattering worlds as one might scatter seeds, Whirled out the luminous order of the stars. An ocean of electric Energy Formlessly formed its strange wave-particles Constructing by their dance this solid scheme, Its mightiness in the atom shut to rest; Masses were forged or feigned and visible shapes; Light flung the photon's swift revealing spark And showed, in the minuteness of its flash Imaged, this cosmos of apparent things. Thus has been made this real impossible world, An obvious miracle or convincing show." So speaks the unbridled tongue of the great sage. If one may ask, this seems to be true in its extent of detail upon our material beginning according to modern science. Ask yourselves, does this only include the macrocosm of being or does it also play true within our microcosm of self?
Guest guest
Beautiful! Can you pls tell us which chapter its taken from, as I havent read Savitri, and also offer a bit of commentary on it, viz, what is Sri Aurobindo trying to explain? Thanks
Guest guest
This excerpt is from Canto 5, "Godheads of the Little Life" of Book 2 in Sri Aurobindo's epic, "Savitri." This is a good example of what Sri Aurobindo calls, the "Substance of Matter" during the creation, according to "The Life Divine." Since we know that this was written well before Modern physics had developed string theory, it is by far beyond me on how clear and precise Aurobindo explains matter's creation through the Involution of the Unthought Idea or Satchidananda through Supermind. "An ocean of electric Energy Formlessly formed its strange wave-particles Constructing by their dance this solid scheme, Its mightiness in the atom shut to rest" Basically what is stated here is the reality of the force of energy becoming enclosed within an atom. As said by Stephen Hawking and Brian Green, this would indicate the hidden dimensions within this universe, packed into infintissimal areas as the strings are vibrating as waves do in an ocean. Therefore this indicates not only the materialistic but also the spiritual(conscious) power within the atom and its existence. "When science discovers that Matter resolves into forms of Energy, it has hold of a universal and fundamental truth....." "The Life Divine" pg. 249. Further commentary on the excerpt soon to follow. Guest guest
Excellent Serpico, pls do post on this further. Indian Philosophy has already been ahead of Science. The problem with science is they are too focussed on the material(physical) world, and refuse to accept the subtle world at all. While Indian philsophers like Sri Aurobindo, Vivekananda, Yogananda etc have always insisted that the subtle worlds are more powerful, and all meditations/Yoga work at this level, Science doesnt even know about it. Of course in Quantum Physics, the boundary b/w Physical and Subtle is vanishing. As Quantum physics shows, a particle can be at 2 places(or more) at once, it can "guess" events in the future. Scientists are at a loss to explain all this phenomena. Perhaps sooner or later they will stumble on the Subtle worlds, and that day a revolution will come, as Science will have to accept most of its theories were either wrong or gross simplifications.
