Guest guest
Religion and culture are often closely related, twin souls some may say, intertwined. Both are based on and incorporate elements of belief, of harmony or at least homogeneity, oneness and similarity in lifestyle, food preferences, language often, thoughts and thinking for sure. Both have enriched human beings, individually and in their clusterings that we term societies -- and yet, while on one hand they have brought us further out of and further away from where it began -- in some cave as anthropologists say -- these most enrichning bounties: culture and religion have also been responsible for nearly all wars, senseless and massive killings, second only to the wrath of nature (earthquakes, tsunamis and pestilence and plagues!). Contrary to what one would presume, there seems to not be any security in numbers when it comes to the insecurity that religions feel. It has always been the dominant religion, historically speaking, that has gotten insecure, and reacted -- in their God's name and started the oppression, the killing, the eradication, the genocide! Like anything in astrology, this hypothesis or observation would not be 100% accurate, I am sure, if one really looks at the history of mankind (wow -- we can still say that eh? Mankind, as if we all do come from a common origin, a cohort that is biologically one, as in capable of reproducing amongst ourselves -- tersely put as indicative of genetic similarity and hence common origins! Although I am sure someone will bring up the example of mules! But they cannot reproduce further and hence are a biological chimera!) ... But getting back to the point, it is my sense that it is always the dominant religion (in pure numbers!), the mainstream religion/culture -- in any nation that gets nervous, overreacts and initiates what leads to blood being shed. BLOOD that is senseless and tersely put, wasted because it could have been transfused and could have been life-giving across nationalities, across societies, across religions, heck -- even across genders (yes, being a bit sarcastic there!)! WHY IS THERE NOT A SECURITY IN NUMBERS, DEAR JYOTISHIS in this world of ours? RR And yet, why the insecurity
