Guest guest
My son is two and one half years old. A month ago he broke out into a rash which the doctors here in Philadelphia said was due to poison ivy or poison sumac plants. They prescribed prednisolone to be taken in syrup form. He has taken the medicine for almost 3 weeks and most of the rash is gone. However, as he was being tapered off the medicine, some of his rash is back. I don't want him to take the same medicine any more. Is there remed in Ayurveda for skin rashes that could prove to be useful in this case. Thanks for your help. Guest guest
dear Awais not sure about Indian herbs here, but several local (North American) herbs have been used topically, including Gumweed, Lobelia, Echinacea and Impatiens, usually in combination with wound-healing botanicals such as Calendula and Chickweed I have never treated this so I can't speak from experience, but a colleague of mine published a study showing the efficacy of tincture of Grindelia (Gumweed) in a base of Chickweed cream, applied topically Canavan D, Yarnell E. Successful treatment of poison oak dermatitis treated with Grindelia spp. (Gumweed). J Altern Complement Med. 2005 Aug;11(4):709-10. based on this, i would recommend getting the Gumweed (Grindelia) as a tincture and mixing in a base of Calendula or Chickweed cream, 5% v/ v, applied several times a day if you have no luck finding these herbs try consulting the these PA herbalist found on the American Herbalists Guild website: http://www.americanherbalistsguild.com/index.php?module=pnAddressBook Grube, Wendy 215.898.1168 Harder, David 610-253-0940 Molony, David 610-264-2755 good luck... todd Caldecott todd (AT) toddcaldecott (DOT) com www.toddcaldecott.com
Guest guest
There is a plant called jewelweed that usually grows near poison ivy. It is reputed to help poison ivy, oak and sumac. I have never tried it. Here is a Google link: http://altnature.com/jewelweed.htm I did a Google search for "jewelweed poison ivy" and the former link was the first one.
