Pala is another name for 'Pravaal' or Coral (usually red or sindoori). It is worn for mars. When nothing happens after wearing a gemstone it does not mean that the gem has been ineffective. The astrologers usually give gemstones either to boost the current beneficial phase or to prevent some potentially harmfull events in future. In the second case, if the gem has been effective, then the life will be as normal as before, but the harmul events would have been avoided. So, the efficacy of coral and its prescrpton being right or wrong can only be determined when we have your correct time of birth.
