Turbinella pyrum variety pyrum Turbinella pyrum variety napus Turbinella pyrum variety dentata Turbinella pyrum variety obtusa Turbinella pyrum variety camorinensis In addition to the species Turbinella pyrum there are few other species as under : Turbinella angulata, Turbinella fuscus, Turbinella laevigata, Turbinella laevigata variety ovoidea, Turbinella laevigata variety rianae, Turbinella laffertyi and Turbinella wheeleri. Guest guest
My friend chandrashekhar Im doing a Research on real valampuri shankh and i can tell you that the shankh on mr tata web page is not the Genuine Valampuri Lakshmi Shank Turbinella Pyrum Conch. OK i will come to your side , if you're saying that the valampuri pic on mr tata is real...then why not show our friends and me of the same type in unpolish version....I'm sure an unpolished shank is no big deal for you since you can provide so much information on the shanks and their bio-names. Show us the pictures of an unpolished shankhas matching of the same of that from the web of Mr Tata's....You can't simply have got a polished shank out of the sea... that will be joke... right... Guest guest
Dear Mr. Vijay Kumar, Thank you very much for your mail. The Valampuries shown on Mr. Tata's website are cent per cent Turbinella pyrum. To be more specific, the polished Shankhas are Turbinella pyrum variety pyrum and Ashta Lakshmi Shankhas are Turbinella pyrum variety napus. there is no doubt about it. I have similar Valampuries in my master collection which are X-rayed by me. In fact I am the person who standardised X-Ray technique to check authenticity of any of the variants. I would suggest you to scroll back the sacred object forum to check my earlier postings. Very soon I am going to publish my research articles in reputed Malacological journals and will let you know about it when published. Here is small correction. I am a Biotechnologist and not Marine biologist. I have good knowledge of all branches of Biotechnology and of Botany, Zoology and Microbiology. You are creating a joke. I know that all shankhas have 'Periostrachum'. When shankhas are polished this periostrachum is removed. If you are a true conchologist and you might have noticed presence of periostrachum in the suture region. It is very difficult to remove periostrachum from suture regions. If you come to Poona, I would be very happy to show my precious collection to you. Putting some irresoponsible comments by mere seeing pictures and not by observing the actual pieces critically is not a job of a scientist I believe. Thanking you and with best wishes; Chandrashekhar Phadke Vijay kumar <vijay_2kumar (AT) (DOT) co.uk> wrote: My friend chandrashekhar Im doing a Research on real valampuri shankh and i can tell you that the shankh on mr tata web page is not the Genuine Valampuri Lakshmi Shank Turbinella Pyrum Conch.
