The September-October time span is `Sharad Rutu'. After another

fortnight, when Navratri starts Sharad Rutu starts. In this period

the `Pitta' problems increase in intensity. The monsoon water which

reached in depts of earth, gets evaporated and heat of sun drives out

this moisture from bowels of earth. This change causes Head ache,

loose motions, vomitting, boils in the mouth, hemorrage, vertigo,

fainting hot flashes in body, warm palms and feet soles etc, as

outlined in earlier message No. 2474 on this list. These problems

becoming excess in Sharad and Grishma rutu. The

increased heat of sun, causes accumulated doshas to show up.

Pitta means impurities and alterations in blood contents. When pitta

increases, the heat in the blood is said to increase. Here heat does

not mean temperature, but the `anti-clotting' tendency. Ayurvedists

also find

that the palms, forehead and feet bottom are also felt warm when

touched by

healer. Excess use of pain killers, antibiotics, Aspirin may also

cause this

`anti-coagulation' effect, causing internal bleeding in intestines.

Exact

correspondence between pitta and disease named by modern science is

difficult.

Avoid chillies, brinjal, ginger, pepper etc. If ginger is necessary,

must be boiled till water reduces to half quantity. All leafy green

and slender vegetables are cooling. Drink made from soaking black

raisins, fennel seeds, candy sugar is also desirable twice a day.

Avoid all kinds of oils. Fried/spicy items and curd (yoghurt) contra-

indicated. Avoid all cerals except green gram soup and Khitchri.

Rice wheat are cooling, bakery items best avoided. These do not allow

rapid recovery under pitta/Raktapitta condition. Garlic, drumstick,

papaya, curd, tomato should be avoided.

Heavy exercise, sunbath, sauna-steam bath, going out in hot sun,

staying awake late night, should be totally avoided. The garden where

water is sprayed, A.C. halls, hill stations, river, lakes are the

areas where pitta dosha reduces. A light massage by cow ghee on palms

and feet bottom at bedtime helps to reduce burning sensation and

sound sleep thereby also helps. If Cow ghee is difficult to obtain

use castor oil for massage on palms and soles.

A heem is suggested here: take coriander seeds (Dhana), Cumeen seeds

(Jeera), Fennel seeds (Sounf), each 1/2 tsp coarsely ground and

soaked 2 hours in water, drink only water every two hours till

sunset, is a simple remedy to reduce heat in the body. Gulkand (with

Praval) is another harmless tonic, which can be taken a tsp three

times a day if affordable.

Cucumber, water melon are fruits to eat, in addition to those already

given by other members.
