Guest guest
Dear Learned Members, I observe full moon fast every month. Given the lunar eclipse on this full moon on 7th September, is it alright to observe the fast from sunrise to sunset? Please reply to my mail. Many thanks Best wishes, Shubhangi
Guest guest
Dear Member: You can perform the full Moon fast from sunrise to sunset. If it is possible, you may wait till the end of the eclipse at 1-07 a.m. and then break the fast....this will be best. Those who are performing Pournami Pooja on that day should avoid abhishekams till the eclipse is over. The chant of Lalitha Sahasranaama can however be done without abhishekam and other outer rituals. If full fast till the time of end of eclipse is not possible, then you may break the fast at sunset. In any case, you should finish your meals before 8 p.m. on that day. Pregnant ladies are requested to remain indoors and not expose themselves to the eclipsed rays as it is believed that this is harmful to the child. Blessed be. Pandit. Guest guest
Dear Shri. Sriramachandra Murthy: You can perform the Satyanaaraayana Pooja in the morning itself (the eclipse is occuring only at night in India). Mahalaya paksha rituals are only for those who have lost either of their parents. Tarpanam can be done in honour of the deceased parents during their death thithi. If both parents are alive, there is no need for any special pooja during Mahalaya paksha. Generally reading Raamayana or other puraanaas during this period is good for the peace of soul of the ancestors. This can be done by anybody. Blessed be. Pandit.
