SELECTIVE TALKING 13/8 (group guidelines?)

Dear Group:

I would Just to add a few comments to what others have

said on this important subject of clearer guidelines for

newsgroup participation:

-Have marriages evaluated with both charts if possible. If

only one chart is used the entire picture is missing, especially

if it is the woman who is suffering from the ending of the

marriage. The woman is more prone to take on the blame or

failure for a bad marriage even if she happens not to be at

fault. Some husbands abuse their wives, have infidelities,

or can even bring disease to the wife - or vice versa. Both

charts should be considered because the marriage is a failure

for both of them. Even if only one chart is available, the other

chart should at least be asked for to show that the astrologer

is striving to be objective.

-I'd also like to see moralizing or lectures on behavior used

sparingly if at all. This is particularly true when a marriage

has just ended and the parties concerned are in a state of

depression and cannot adsorb such advice. They need help

with the depression, understanding about the failure in marriage,

and hope for a better life, even if the upcoming dashas and

transits may still be difficult. Without sugar coating the

information, there's still a way of explaining such trends in a

way that can transform these challenges into something

beneficial or necessary to the person's life.

-When controversial predictions or judgments are made, they

should be supported with a valid argument for an informal peer

review to show if these indications can be clearly seen from the

chart. Situations where life-threatening disease is involved,

expensive relocations or major changes in the career, conjectures

about infidelities (if unwisely brought up on a public forum to begin

with), should be substantiated with the reasoning behind them.

Then it becomes a learning experience for everyone. If infidelities

are involved, the date of such an infidelity should be mentioned in

a way that can be verified or denied by the person or so others on

this forum can see such indications for themselves, even if the

person is unlikely to admit to such behavior. Major infidelities

jeopardizing someone's marriage are major events and there

should be major indications that are obvious to those who are

experienced in astrology. If no such arguments are presented on

these kinds of important sensitive issues in people's lives because

the technicques are considered proprietary information, then it's

perhaps fair to assume that the spirit of good will is lacking in the

astrologer, as there is no public benefit. Otherwise, why post

predictions on a forum where the person asking the question is

benefited, but not the forum as a whole? Such replies could just as

easily be handled privately off-line, or the response is likely to

appear as primarily self-serving to the astrologer him- or herself.

I'd like to see some of these guidelines written into the Welcome

page of this and other astrology forums. Astrologers have a

responsibility to the general public and to the community of

astrologers, whether one respects them as a whole or not. While

the opinions between astrologers on each chart will continue to

vary, there still are basic principles that most practitioners adhere

to and it's instructive to see how they are used when assessing

someone's chart. That way everyone is in a better position to

improve their own analytical or predictive skills. Without doing this,

people will continue to blindly hand over their lives to astrologers

who appear to be strong, decisive and skilled, but there's no way

of knowing unless the outcome of such predictions are publically

shared or verified. That's why these arguments should make sense

and will help develop confidence between the astrologer, client, and

the general public.

The above are a few ways to keep the standards of practice high

for astrologers or to help us improve where needed. There are billions

of people in the world and certainly enough clients to go around

for those who are dedicated to developing their abilities on a

continuing basis. No astrologer that I have ever known has built

his or her astrology practice from newsgroup postings alone. They

did it by developing their presence within their own community and

doing readings for free until others insisted upon paying them. That's

one way to do it, but there are others if the astrologer feels worthy of

payment to begin with for his skills. That's the magic key, in my view,

otherwise the astrologer will continue to give himself away without

feeling truly worthy of being financially compensated. None of the

suggestions I've made with regard to newsgsroup participation are

to me controversial in any way; they come out of respect for the

public and the community of astrologers and are largely based

on common sense. I hope these kinds of discussions will continue

until something tangible results from them.

This astrologer's view.

Best wishes, Haizen Paige
