Chemicals and God consciousness.

Dear Yashendraji,

Namaste. First of all I am not a doctor. My interest in this field developed after I got mauled by modern medicine.

Actually the move towards mechanised and chemical pesticed laced agriculture termed the "green revolution" was opposed by the Gandhian farmers from the very beginning. They were in favour of organic farming which includes;

1. Rotation of crop and gaps between two crops.

2. Non weeding.

3. Organic manure and vermiculture.

4. Resisting super hybrids.

The rotation of crop ensured that the minerals exhausted by one type of crop were not further depleted by the same crop being continued for the second time. Gaps between crops allowed the soil to replenish itself.

Non weeding ensured that there was insect diversity and the predator and prey existed together thus keeping a check on pests.

Organic farming included organic manure like cowdung, vermiculture etc and the use of neem and turmeric based pesticides, herbs, charcoal, spices, not only on the standing crop but also in the preservation of the produce.

Super hybrids speed up the produce but the produce does not get the time to ensure the full nutrition levels. Non seasonal food and fruits also suffer from this defect.

Pesticides certainly affect the population at the mental and emotional level, besides the physical. My acquaintance with homeopathy has taught me how every substance affects us at physical, mental and emotional levels and the disturbance in this lower level diverts us from our spiritual goal by affecting our spiritual consciousness which is the Supreme's special gift to man and the sole reason why even Gods covet a human birth.

The spiritual consciousness can be affected by food, lifestyle, chemicals and poisons and by association with the atheists. Even the aura of a disbeliever can affect the spirutual consciousness, the reason why the adept stay away from crowds and civillisation. Ayurveda says even the mode of dressing can affect one, a fact supported by Sri Ramakrishna and other saints who said, "Jaisa besh waisa vesh", meaning your dress can shape your morals.

The loss of spiritual consciousness is what is termed hell, and is worse than death.

Those who support holistic therapies should accept spiritualism in toto as they are fit instruments in the hands of the Supreme to establish the coming Satya Yuga.

Love & Regards,

Jagannath.

Dear Yashwantji,

While reflecting on the subject the following came to me. Plants have

a consciousness of their own, as scientifically demonostrated by Sir

Jagadish Chandra Bose. He showed how plants react differently to

persons with good intentions and persons who wish to harm them. This

explains why sincere gardeners usually enjoy mental peace and good

health. Vastu also recommends keeping plants in the house and tending

carefully to them.

This phenomenon can be extended to animals also. In Orissa where in

many households cows are tended to with great reverence it has been

observed that the cows take upon calamities or even death upon

themselves thus saving the household. In a book on Sri Lahiri

Mahashaya I faintly remember reading how a cow absorbed the illness

of a member of the household.

To extend this concept we can perceive that pesticides and modern

organised farming must be painful for the plant world. It can be

imagined, at least by the holistic practitioners, that the plant

world is emanating negative energy as a result of this.

I also feel bad when I read about mass culling of poultry as such

mass murders, and in a gruesome form like live burials, burning,

gassing, do not bear well for the society. We are committing a great

crime whose responsibility we cannot shirk from.

In our scriptures we know how, at the end of the last Kali Yuga,

nature taking the form of a calf went to Lord Vishnu and complained

about the atrocities heaped upon it by humankind. Has a similar cry

already gone to the Lord once again? I will not be surprised if it

has.

Love & Regards,

Jagannath.
