The previous post omitted a significant sentence (which in effect is the punchline to Amma's parable. Here is a revisal of the earlier post. ... Amma conducted a Satsang talk on the first evening of the Marlborough Massachusetts retreat on Wednesday July 19, 2006. {{Anyone who attended this first night in the Retreat please give me your recollections of the following story.}} Memory indicates that Amma was talking about the disharmony in Satsangs. Amma said something to the effect that Tamil devotees go to Tamil Satsangs. And Western Devotees go to Western Satsangs and they do not seem to mix. My sense was that Amma was less than pleased about this tendency. Then within this context Amma told the Krishna and Jealous Gopi (Story/Parable) {{Forgive my attempt at paraphrase}}. The Gopis were becoming jealous of one another. One Gopi would think Lord Krishna dances with the other Gopi longer than me. Another Gopi would wonder if Sri Krishna smiled more often at another Gopi and so on .... Sri Krishna decided to teach them a lesson. He gathered them in an assembly and said (again I clumsily paraphrase from debilitated memory cells wish I had taken notes but I get a little lazy at Retreats) Sri Krishna said to the Gopi Assembly: "I have observed that most of you have great reverence for items considered holy. For example the water of the Ganges is sometimes put aside and placed on your alter. Even a rock from some venerable locale is held as precious. Every one of you have obtained some object from My possession. Some of you have a part of one My feathers. Some of you have perhaps a piece of one of my articles of clothing or flute. But please my children, be aware that ALL OF YOU HAVE TOUCHED ME OR HUGGED ME AT CERTAIN TIMES. That makes each and every one of you Prasad." {{In my last post I omitted the following}} ///With Amma's grace I wrote the punchline to this story on back of my Motel 6 bill:/// The punchline is: Sri Krishna said: " ONLY WHEN YOU SEE EACH OTHER LOVINGLY WILL I BE PLEASED. The jot down also say that Big Swami repeated this phrase twice in his translation of our Beloveds nectarean words. You could just feel how everyone realized how it should apply to everyone around them and more. Jai Maa! Like others who toured a bit this Summer I am continuously amazed at your seemingly tireless yet meticulous Seva for our Mutual Mother. In City after City your Karma yoga seems Hanuman like. No I am not exagerating.}}} In Amma's Krishna and Jealous Gopi Parable my mind drifts toward a section of M.A. Center's Travelling Bookstore. There is a section where they sell Saris that Amma has worn at Devi Bhava's These items are several hundred dollars in price. Bracelets worn by Amma are far more expensive due to Her skin contact etc. Why? If you were a non spiritual scientist with a minor in Marketing one would think - well, - the mark up in price is due to the proximity of Amma's skin to the article of clothing or jewelry or cloth. Amma/Krishna (in the parable) wants to remind us that each and every Devotee has not only come in contact with Amma but have had our hair stroked, our chins and cheeks tweeked and even felt the Devi's holy lips on our foreheads. Are we not one hundred and eight times more valuable than a Sari from a Devi Bhava? The jealousy thing reminds me of a "practice" I used to do in the first couple years, when all the jostling at San Ramon and some other places would get so much on my nerves. (This was, I guess, before I got all rajasic and getting onto other peoples' nerves....) But when someone would walk past and bump into me, or step into my space, or otherwise have their "aura" bounce up against "mine" in an energetic way that felt... uncomfortable... I would control my mind by imagining that the physical being "doing this" to "me" was just like Amma. So that the image of how we would peacefully clear out of Her path upon Her approach, or whatnot... well, the same rules applied. Why, stupid mind, (went the interiour dialogue) are you reacting to this person "in your way" or "in your space" when if it were Amma who was walking by or stepping on your toes or whatever, you would just be in Bliss?
