Number of Shaligram/ Worship

Dear Richardji:

A good friend of mine recently made a donation for shaligram as he

saw the benefits that I was reaping from having them in my life.

The difference is I am a devotee and he is not.

I do daily worship and am vegetarian as I have been a Vedic

practitioner for over 30 years...

He is Buddhist, but owns a number of rudraksha. He has a beautiful

home altar, where the shaligram live, but I think he eats meat and

don't know what sort of puja he does to the shilas ..if any.

After reading this story as well as your exchange with Mr. Ole I am

wishing I had not encouraged him as I had.

I don't think he will be particularily fond of the notion to give

them away. To return them back to where he got them would be quite

costly in shipping. I would be willing to reimburse what he paid and

take them , but I think he has grown attached to them as possessions..

Do you or any of the other members know what is taught scriptually as

to the ramifications of not doing daily worship or eating meat and

worshipping. I can't seem to find any, but I have found descriptions

as to the benefits of giving them away..

I feel if he was more thoroughly educated he could make a better

decision .. I feel responsible for the shaligram coming his way.

Many thanks.

Ariel

Dear Ariel,

I'm certain that Shalagram Shila is "Svatantra" or independant. He goes

where He likes and is fully satisfied, from biggest temple pujas, and

down to being a respected decoration... in all cases He is atmarama or

Self-satisfied. That is the meaning of Shalagram, Who is Sat Chit

Ananda.

And as you can see that Shalagram seems happy. Shalagram is able to

leave at will, but He is remaining. So blessed is your friend. Please

don't worry. If you want to know a lot about Shalagram please visit

this page: http://www.agt-gems.com/salagram-quotes.html

In some Vedic quotes it says to have Shalagram, even without any puja,

is beyond auspicious, because Bhagavan Himself has chosen to reside

there. "Eko-aham bahu sama" - "I am one, but become many". There will

not be any harm caused by Shalagram Shila Who is all-auspicious.

Regardless of worship or respect, or even without respect is still 100%

auspicious.

Hari Om! Hari Om Tat Sat!

Dear Shri Richard Krishna, Shri Ariel Krishna, the self bows in respect to the self in your-selves.

Krishna, yes you are right however we should not neglect HIM purposefully...there are a couple of mantras which your friend's jiva should receite and offer HIM naivaidya if he is not able to do the pooja. Since your friend is not a vegetarian the Shri Saalagrama murthy has to be donated to a temple by your friend.

Those who are in a hurry can take few minutes to recite the two dhyAna slOkams, perform japam of AshtAksharam, offer milk, TaambhOlam, Karpoora haratthi. The SaaLagrama Moorthys at home should not be neglected and starved since inauspiciousness will result otherwise to the home.

The two dhyAna slOkams are:

dhyAyAmi Devam LakshmIsam Sankha-chakra-gadhAdharam

PeethAmBara paridhAnam Padhmasannibha lOchanam

Mandasmitha mhukhAmbhOjam madhanAyutha Sundaram

MaayAnirmitha lOkaougam mEgasyAmaLa vigraham

SrI LakshmI NaarAyaNam dhyAyAmi

NamO NamasthE KaruNAlaya NamO NamasthE KamalAdhavAya

NamO NamasthE JagathAm cha srashtrE namO namasthE nathsOka harthrE

ThrAhi maam KaruNAsindhO ! Paahi maam KamalApathE!

Thvayi bhakthi: sadhaivAsthu mama sarvArTadhAyini

(PraNavam ) NamO NaarAyaNa ..Subhamasthu.

Even on days in which one is unable to perform AarAdhanam for SaaLagrAma Moorthys , The ladies of the house or children can recite the above slOkAs in front of the Moorthys, offer the food cooked for the day as naivEdhyam and complete the aarAdhanam this way.

When one is unable to perform SaaLagrama PoojA, which is the easiest daily ritual to perform, one should give them away to temples or to those, who can accept that daily duty.

Ask your friend to donate HIM to a temple where they will take care of HIM. Like the benefits you get in charity, you do get half the dhosham if your friend delibrately ignores Sri Saligrama Aradhanam.

SubhamMastu!

Subham Dinam Astu!

Sarvam Sri Krishna Arpanam Astu!
