Guest guest
Om, of course you can wear the mala if you feel a strong intuition to do so. Our parents and forebears are our first "gurus" the day we enter samsara from mother's womb. The mantras recited by your grandfather would still have the powers retained, especially in the meru bead since he used it for daily puja to Lord Shiva. By all means follow your instincts if you wish to wear it. And when you don't, put it back with a word of "thanks" on the Shiva photo. Example for you: Before a guru departs from samsara, he usually hands down his malas and other sacraments to a parampara-holder. The parampara-holder then uses all the things that his satguru bestowed him. Malas are part of these sacraments.
