Festival begins at Pillayarpatti

Sivaganga, August 18: The 10-day Vinayaka Chathurthi festival at the

famous Lord Karpaga Vinayakar temple in Pillayarpatti in the

district began today with the flag hoisting ceremony.

Amidst chanting of Vedic hymns, the flag was hoisted in the presence

of the temple trustees, chief priest K Pitchai Sivachariar and a

large number of devotees.

The processional deity mounted on 'Mooshika vahana' was taken around

the temple.

The car festival would be held on August 26 and the 10-day event

would come to an end with the 'theerthavari' on the Vinayaka

Chathurthi day on August 27 when over one lakh devotees are expected

to throng the temple.

Special buses will be operated for the benefit of devotees,

officials said. (Agencies)
