Guest guest Posted August 18, 2006 Report Share Posted August 18, 2006 Kanchi seer's jayanthi celebrated Kancheepuram, August 10: The 72nd jayanthi of Jayendra Saraswathi, the 69th Sankaracharya of the Sankara Mutt here, was celebrated today with enthusiasm by devotees. The seer performed deeparadhana at the 'adhishtanam' of his predecessor Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi. Special abishekams were performed at the Kamakshi Amman temple here. Various homams which were being conducted at the mutt for the past 15 days concluded with 'purnahuthi'. Seventy-seven students were given educational kits containing textbooks, notebooks, etc and 72 Vedic scholars given cash assistance. Madurai Adheenam Gnanasambanda Desikar, the head of the ancient Saivite mutt in Madurai, also participated in the jayanthi celebrations.
