Dear Members

Jai Shree Ram

There was a lot of discussion on Gayatri etc.

I will share my little understanding.

We need to differentiate between name/mantra/stotra/Vedic Mantra and

Stotra

Name of God can be taken by any one without any kind of restriction

in any manner(correct/incorrect/reverse etc.).It will give its results

irrespective of all errors like a seed will grow in soil and give

friuts

even if it is placed in vertical/horzontal/inverted direction. So if

you

say Rama or Mara it does not matter. HE knows that you are calling

HIM.

This is THE safest route for every one.

Mantra has meaning. If you change it,meaning changes and hence results

will not be same. eg. "Ramay namah" means I bow to Ram while Maray

namah

will mean I bow to dead(Mara). It is not correct. There are many

conditions

and restrictions for mantras and they are not to be recited loudly.

In fact

Mansik-Jap is best and many times more effective as compared to loud

recitation.

Stotra should be recited loudly and correctly. It is more effective

then

Mantra-Jap. It is said that "Stotram kim na Tushyate" means who can

not be

pleased by praise? However incorrect recital can give bad results.

While reciting Mantra and Stotra,if one can use correct intonation,it

is

desirable but a correct recital will be enough for most of them.

However

for vedic mantras and stotras, intonation is very important and if you

do not know it,it should not be recited. Vedic-mantras have the power

to

bring that deity at that place and force HIM. When correct vibrations

are produced,it is possible to see the picture of that deity as

described

in scriptures. These qualities are unique to vedic mantras and

stotras.

If you make mistake, some part of the deity may not appear properly and

hence deity may feel angree or will not give result.

For these reasons, one should keep away from them unless he/she learns

them correctly. To maintain correct pronounciation,I have seen several

old brahmins(70-80 years age group) doing regular practice of mantras

from Rigved. Even though they recited them correctly throught their

life,

they say that regular practice is must for correct recital. My house

owner

in Pune was one of them.

I will now try to explain 4 types of speech/Vak.

Vaikhari is the sound others can hear clearly.

Madhyama is unclear sound where movement of lips etc. is visible.

Madhyama is half way between Vaikhary and Pashyanti and hence the

name.

Pashyanti means observing. We read silently without any movemet of

lips.

we just SEE words(physically/mentaly).

Para is even more abstract. You memorise some thing so that you don't

even need to see. You can just remember mentaly. This mental

remembering

is Para. Mantr-Jap in Para is most effective and in Vaikhary it is

least

effective. For Stotras it is reverse.

Regarding eligibility of a person,

In Valmiki Ramayan Uttarkand sarg 74, sage Narad told Shree Ram:

(www.geetapress.org hard bound 1600+ pages in Sanskrit-hindi cost Rs.

220/-)

Heen varno nripshreshth tapyate sumahattap:

bhavishyachchhoodrayonyam hi tapshcharya kalau yuge

O great king, low caste people will also perform great tap

in future. Shoodras will do tap in kaliyug.

Naradji said in Satyug only brahmins do tap,in Treta:brahmin and

kshatriy,

in Dwaper:brahmin, kshatriy and vaishy and in Kaliyug: all castes can

do

tap and hence all are considered equal. So I think there is no

restriction

to sharing religious mantra etc. in Kaliyug.

Recently, Asaram Bapu gave Deeksha via video-conferencing to hundreds

of

people abroad and it was also shown on TV.

It is necessary to use only those rules that are applicable in

Kaliyug.

If we try to enforce rules applicable to other yugas, there will be

conflict and ultimatly rules will be broken by public/govt.

Thanks

Anil

OM TAT SAT

PS: Has any one seen "Ramayan tatpary deepika" ? this is a commentry

on Valmiki Ramayan written by Ved-Vyas on the request of Yudhishthir

and available also.
