Guest guest
TO TAKE THIS DISCUSSION OF SPIRITUAL ADVANCEMENT THROUGH HOLISTIC HEALING A STEP OR TWO FURTHER, WE WILL HAVE TO GO BEYOND OUR MIND AND ITS CONSCIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF ALL SCIENCES KNOWN TO MAN, I QUOTE FROM THE HOLY MOTHER OF ARVINDO ASHRAM, PONDICHERRY: "INSTINCT: CONSCIOUSNESS OF NATURE (Mother India, May 2005, page 446): "The Mother, who was the collaboratrix of Sri Aurobindo in his supramental yoga has explained the why and how of instinct in nature. "Nature is conscious of its action, but this is not an individual consciousness. There is an instinct of the species. Some have said that there were even "spirits of the species", conscious beings for each species. Instinct depends on the way Nature works, and Nature is a conscious force which knows what it wants, does it in its own way, knowing where it is going and its roads: it itself chooses them. For man, this appears incoherent, for his own consciousness is too narrow (he can't see the whole well enough; when one sees only the small details of things or little fragments, one can't understand at all), but Nature has a plan, it has a conscious will, it is altogether a conscious identity - it can't be called a being, forit is not in the same proportion. When we speak of a being with our human consciousness, we immediately imagine a human being, perhaps a little larger or much larger. but still functioning always in the same way. That is why I don't call it a being, but it is a conscious entity, a conscious will doing things consciously, deliberately and having formidable forces at its disposal. Animals have much more perfect senses than those of men. I challenge you to track a man as a dog does, for instance. "This means that in the curve or rather the spiral of evolution, animals (and more so those we call "higher animals, because they resemble us more closely) are governed by the spirit of the species which is a highly conscious consciousness. Bees, ants, obey this spirit of the species which is of quite a special quality. And what is called "instinct" in animals is simply obedience to the spirit of the species which always knows what ought and ought not to be done. There are so many examples. You put a cow in a meadow; it roams around, sniffs and suddenly puts out its tongue and snatches a blade of grass. Then it wanders about again, sniffs and gets another tuft of grass, and so it goes on. Has anyone known a cow under these conditions eating poisonous grass? But shut this poor animal up in a cow shed, gather and put some grass before it and the poor creature which has lost its instinct because it now obeys man (excue me), eats the poisonous grass along with the rest of it...And these unfortunate animals like all animals, have a respect...for the superiority of man--if he puts poisonous grass before the cow and tells it to eat, it eats it! But left to itself, that is, without anything interfering between it and the spirit of the species, it would never do so. My notes: That is how when the dairy magnates of Europe started feeding leftovers from the slaughter houses to the poor milch cattle out of greed for moolah, they gave rise to the 'mad cow disease'. In the process of evolution from animal to man, this wonderful gift of intuition has been lost. But as Sri Aurobindo has pointed out, man has the potential of access to intuition, and the evolutionary future of humanity is "mind fulfilling itself in the supramental", which is the highest possible state of knowledge. Hence, it is a great pleasure and satisfaction to me personally that the exercises as prescribed for various spinal and other aches and pains under ATBSNR technique, when put into practice "instinctively" as explained at the website and through many other articles, taking a cue or two from birds and animals (remember reference to the doglike or catlike stretches and the intermittent tail twitching of the sparrows and what not) , are giving so many benefits of all round good health with wellness and bliss, simultaneously improving meditation to feel an inkling of self-realisation for those who are some what attuned spiritually. Guest guest
This is a wonderful input Acharyaji. Around two decades ago when I first read The Mothers views on health I found it strange that she viewed disease too as the work of spirits. I am yet to understand the full implications but I suppose each acute disease may have a spirit of its own. That is in fact what The Mother says. This was known in the Vedic times also where there were both Devatas and Apadevatas. The Apadevatas caused disease and accidents. Therefore various deities were identified for various ailments and pujas were performed. This may explain the "morbid disease matter" that Hahnemann refers to when explaining disease. This disease matter is not the germs or viruses but beyond them, like a mischievous energy. For accidents too The Holy Mother blames the spirits. Therefore she asked her devotees not to loiter in the accident site. That spirits can cause accidents is a belief that persists. We also see many places which are very accident prone for reasons unknown. I think we have to rename spirits and goblins as electrons or photons so that we do not sound superstitous !! It is strange is it not that science discovers energy and it is accepted, our ancestors knew about spirits and are maligned. Regards, Jagannath. This disease matter is not the germs or viruses but beyond them, like a mischievous energy. Throughout history people have described the several selves - there is the 'true' self the 'original' self - but most of these descriptions are of the ego (Ahamkara)and it's various aspects. Example the disease process has it's own persona - the self we are as we experience ourselves with disease and from the perspective of the disease - our personality is one way with disease and another way when free of disease - the persona that has the disease is a complicated pattern in human physiology and psychology - it has it's own needs and imperatives - but most importantly in the context we are talking about here - we have identified 'self' from the disease perspective - therefore when healing disease it is not just necessary to correct the imbalance in the Dosha's it is necessary to destroy the old diseased personality - otherwise the disease continually reforms itself and benefits from past therapy can be lost or reversed by the old persona which does not want to go - it keeps reasserting itself. It is the elimination of this false self - the diseased self - which is refered to as death of ego - all must go through this death to be healed and achieve Rasayana - unfortunately many false selves are very powerful and refuse to leave - this is why the Mother and others called as spirits - these false personas are like being haunted by ghosts - a presence that interferes with our recovery from disease - these 'spirits' are nothing but our own false selves. It is like a habit and although we may no longer manifest the original states - the habit keeps kicking in - it is a part of our endogenous habit patterns - they become sub- conscious patterns of self defintion. This is called many things - Ego - The 'I' - a description or feeling of self as opposed to the whole self. The trance - The way the mind habitually redefines itself in limited terms - it is a habit of self refferal regardless of changing circumstances. False self - Another term for Ego Small ego - That part of ego which has created 'personality' - the limited or projected self' Fixation or fascination - Same meaning as trance. The shadow - the ego as a limited refelection of 'true self' Spirit or spirits - The alternative or false persona - some have many persona's - as the disease has gone through many transformations, steps, and levels over time and each phase may have their own persona or projection - this is why personality often seems in conflict with itself - it is. The 'errors'or 'sins' - The Dosha's - those patterens of false and errouneous life which have created the disease - as each Dosha dominates because of pathology then we will experience and define ourselves according to the dominant dosha - Vata might equal fear - Pitta might equal anger - Kapha might equal dullness - each of these states create another sense of 'self' - these feelings do not simply disapear they remain in the mind as 'parts' or 'aspects' of self definition. ETC. Hahnemann called the levels of disease that creates these false selves as Miasms - These are the major Miasms but we might have many individual Miasms which come from our interaction with the world - as example diseases like Syphilis run not as an infectious disease but as a 'taint' that is carried from generation to generation - many things cause these taints. Many viral infections cause life time complications years after the infectious process resolves itself. 1 - The universal Miasm - that essential disease process which we share with all humanity - it is often referred to as 'Alienation from God' - it is the essential dual nature of life - the conflict between self and other. 2 - The cultural Miasm - this creates the social diseases that most suffer from who are born into a particular culture - the Indian's have different cultural disease patterns from say English or Japanese - most of this has to do with culturaal habits like eating certain foods - or social restrictions which inhibit natural patterns by supplanting false cultural assumptions. All cultures have their illusions and the individuals in a particular cultural context have to suffer because of this and we often feel in conflict from our own needs and desires as opposed to cultural needs. Those who's Prakriti is contrary to the cultural Prakriti they live in will often feel at conflict within themselves and at conflict with society. Individuals are often defined with pathology when in reality it is simple cultural prejudice. 3 - The family Miasm - these are the disease patterns that run in our family - from mother and father side - our genetic mix - but it also includes the family patterns - cooking styles of the home - the cook - the relationship between the members of the family - all of this creates patterns that may or may not be pathological. 4 - The personal Miasm - that absoutely personal pattern we are born with that makes us different from our mother and father and our siblings. We are unique and no other person has the same body or life that we do - therfore no matter how much we are alike still our diseases will manifest in very personal ways according to our personal Prakriti.
