Guest guest
>> Is it True that the last thought at death decides our next birth? ----------------- That's what the all knowing Lord says in the Gita, Therefore it has to be true, it cannot be otherwise. Perhaps just before leaving the present body, the mind is in a state of flux, therefore whatever one thinks at that time, mind solidifies or takes the form of that thought and is immediately thrown into that body form. The scriptures site the example of Jada Bharat in this context. At the time of death one is in pain, therefore, at that time the thought of the Lord can only come to mind if one has been practicing that for his whole life, unless willed by the Lord differently. This is over simplification of a complex subject. OM radhakutir

True radhakutirji. I was reading somewhere that at death a persons whole life flashes before them, all the good and bad deeds. Then they are shown how they will be rewarded/punished for all deeds. This terrifies most people, who are scared of the death of their cherished ego. But the person has been taking Lords name his/her whole life, he only thinks about the Lord, and laughs at Deaths face, because of his complete faith in his Ishta Devtaa. Against such faith, even Yama has to bow. The story of Rishi Markandya is illustrative. He was destined to die when only 16 years old, so he sat in Mandir and started chanting name of Shivji. When Yama came to take him, he grabbed the Shiv Linga. When Yama pulled his soul, Shivji too was pulled out of the Linga, and in anger he burnt Yama. This shocked all the Gods, who came to him and asked him to revive Yama. Shivji did so, but on the condition that anyone who sincerely prayed to the Lord at time of death who no longer be under Yamas control. For this he was called Maha-Mrituanjya-The One who conquered Death.
