Traditionally, red should be avoided by those who are Mangalik. But

if you're Tantric, this rule of thumb may not have to apply (consult

your guru).

 

And yes it will be as affective to put your beads on silver. Silver

is a conductor that will also enhance electromagnetic properties of

rudraksha.
