William C. Altmann Jr.

ALTMANN, William C., Jr. On Monday, (June 19, 2006), William Charles

Altmann, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at his home in Glastonbury. He

was predeceased by his beloved wife, Valeda Stusick Altmann and his

mother, Dorothy, and stepfather, Merritt Stuart and his father,

William C. Altmann, Sr. He is survived by his brother and his wife,

Peter and Beth Altmann and his nephews, Scott and Christopher Altmann

and a great-nephew, Weston Altmann. Also, he is survived by three

stepsisters, Charlotte Bergstrom, Lillian Stuart-Whistler and

Elizabeth Calvert. Bill was to have been married in July to the new

light of his life, Nancy Manning, to whom he was devoted. Bill

graduated from St. Lawrence University and did post graduate studies

at the Sorbonne, the University of Beruit and Middlebury College.

During his lifetime, he was a French teacher and a salesman of college

texts. He was an avid naturalist and studied extensively in the fields

of archeology, ornithology and botany. For many years he headed the

Christmas bird census in the Glastonbury area. Bill was one of the

founders of "The Friendly Visitor" program which provided homebound

elderly with weekly companionship. In addition, he was a volunteer

with the Meals on Wheels program. Bill was a very giving person and

helped many people to have a better life. He was a Sai Baba devotee

and traveled to India on his spiritual quest. Donations may be made to

the Sathya Sai Baba Society 305 West 1st Street Tustin California

92780, in William Altmann's name. Funeral arrangements are being made

by the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury.

The family will receive friends , Friday June 23, at 10 a.m. and the

funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial

will be announced.
