AT GOD WILL NOTHING MATTERS.... LET US HAVE A SUBJECT FOLLOWS...

A royal messenger of Sri Maharaj Ugrasen, the King of Mathura was

hurrying to meet the revered Sage Garga.

 

"Can I have the darshan of Guruji?" with humility writ large on his

voice, inquired the Royal Messenger to a disciple who was standing

guard at the hermitage of the Saint.

 

Vishvambar, the disciple went into the hermitage to find if his guru

can give audience to the messenger. After a small period of wait the

messenger was led by Vishvambar to his Guru.

 

The messenger prostrated before the Sage and said, "Oh! Revered Sir,

I am on a very urgent mission commissioned by the King of Mathura.

Kalayavana, the barbarian king, in his mission to be the greatest

among the warriors, has besieged the city of Mathura with a massive

army of thirty million barbarians from the North West. Intelligence

sources have informed that Jarasandha, the emperor of Magadha, whose

army was routed seventeen times by the powers of Lord Balarama, and

Lord Krishna is also marching with a large army towards Mathura from

the South East. As a part of the joint strategy of the enemies,

Jarasandha's army will reach here in a day or two.

 

Under these circumstances, to ensure the safety of the citizens of

Mathura, during the war, Lord Krishna has advised the King to create

a city near the shores of the western sea and shift all the citizens

of Mathura there. The entire operation if the creation of the city,

transfer of the citizens and their re-establishment into the new city

is planned to happen within these two days. Hence, Oh! Revere one!

Kindly suggest us a propitious time for both the Bhoomipuja, i.e.,

the foundation stone laying ceremony for the city and the

gruhapravesh, i.e., the house warming ceremony by the citizens."

 

The sage, with a meaningful smile on his face, looked at his disciple

Vishvambar who was fully dazed at the unusual request coming from the

King. "You looked dazed Vishvambar, what is the matter?" inquired the

sage.

 

"Oh! Learned one! Mathura is a very large city and took years to be

built this big. The western shore is quite far fro here. Traveling

there by the fastest means would take more than two weeks to reach.

The king has asked both for the laying of the foundation and

inaugration of the city within two days. How can this be possible?"

wondered the disciple.

 

The sage expecting this question from the disciple

replied, "Everything is possible if the Lord of Lords wills. If you

desire you can witness the ceremonies yourself." Answering so, he

advised the messenger that the following day was auspicious for both

the ceremonies with Rohini star staying in position for the entire

day.

 

The messenger with no moment to waste left for Mathura accompanied by

Vishvambar who was curious to know what was in store for the morrow.

The messenger reached the court of King Ugrasena and conveyed the

message of the sage in presence of Lord Balarama and Lord Krishna.

 

Lord Krishna summoned his trusted side Garuda and entrusted him to

lead King Ugrasena, Balarama and Him to the western coast for the

search of a suitable location for the new city.

 

Garuda, abiding by his masters order's led them in no time to a place

called Kushasthali at the western banks facing the mountain Raivataka.

 

Lord felt that Kushasthali was too small a place to house the vast

population of Mathura along with the massive Yadava army. He

requested the Lord of sea, to recede by twenty five thousand square

kilometers and provide a new island to accommodate the city with the

western sea itself serving as a moat.

 

The sea responded.

 

There arose a beautiful land from the sea measuring One hundred and

fifty kilometers by One hundred and fifty kilometers on which King

Ugrasen performed the bhoomipuja in the auspicious moment suggested

by the sage, with Vishwambar as the priest.

 

Lord Krishna the summoned the celestial architect Vishwakarma to

build a beautiful city before the fall of the day and had entrusted

his aide, Garuda to help him while he would be away to Mathura to

dispatch the citizens to the new city being built. It was already

past noon while Garuda and Vishwakarma completed their survey. They

were feeling exhausted and decided to have a nap under the nice shady

instantly grown holy fig (asvaththa) tree in the nascent island.

Vishvambar was wonder struck at the appearance of the grown up holy

fig. Garuda and Vishwakarma were probably too tired to note this and

went to their nap. Soon Vishwambar also joined them.

 

In his nap, Garuda had a dream. A young Brahmin boy woke them up

saying he had come from Mathura and was inquiring, "Oh great sirs!

Which road to take to reach to our Agraharam, the place where

Brahmins are to reside?" Garuda woke up from slumber and looked

around and lo! To his amusement a beautiful city stood around them.

Thrilled he woke up and it was unbelievable.

 

Here was a fort with well laid roads, many entrances and beautifully

decorated gateways of crystal touching heaven with their gold domes,

richly architectured palaces and houses for all classes of Mathura

citizens, beautiful towers and gardens consisting of celestial trees

and creepers as well as wonderful grooves and many areas for

amusement.

 

Vishwakarma took his plan and compared it to the built-up city. He

was amazed to see the exact match.

 

Within no time he could also locate the Agraharam. But the lad would

not move and he stood smiling. Garuda quickly recognized his master

and both fell at the feet of the Lord and chanted "Om Manave Namaha".

 

The term Manu refers to the one with wizardly will. It is a child's

play for Lord Krishna who with a fraction of His will had established

the Universe.

 

All the citizens of Mathura were instantaneously transplanted in the

new city. Yes! It was indeed transplantation! For, they all slept in

Mathura and woke up in Dwaraka.

 

Vishwakarma was amazed with the entrance towers of the city and

suggested they name the city Dwaraka. Dwaraka means the city full of

entrances – for spiritual and material prosperity. Lord at once

accepted it and requested King Ugrasen to perform gruhapravesham.

 

All the celestial sages and gods including Devendra descended at

Dwaraka to witness the auspicious ceremony of `city-warming'.

Devendra presented his own durbar called Sudharma to Lord Krishna.

Other Devas offered rich gifts to the Lord. Lord Krishna in turn,

offered all the gifts to King Ugrasen.

 

Lord Krishna proclaimed that the city named as Dwaraka will also

stand as an entrance to his celestial abode for all the living beings

and wash off their sins. Yes! Dwaraka is one of the seven Mukti-

kshetras.

 

Vishvambar aghast at the turn of events ran to the feet of his guru,

Sage Garga and said, "I wonder how in a day such events have

occurred. It is unimaginable revered dir! Please explain to me."

 

"Vedas say, He desired. He thought. He created. If He, with the

wizardly will, can create the entire universe in no time, creation of

a city like Dwaraka is nothing for Him!" answered Garga.

 

Let us chant this name (Om Manave Namaha) and pray to Him to will for

our material and spiritual prosperity!
