Guest guest
Dear Narsimhaji, Pranam! Thank you for your elucidating messages on the Gayatri Mantra. Actually, i too tried to relate the words with the intonation during humming but did not succeed entirely. I was missing a beat somewhere in the first line. It is interesting to relate what u have been saying here with what Michael Mamas mentioned during a talk in DElhi some months back. I hope i am not misquoting him, but i think he mentioned something about the entire vedas just being just chandas in one dimension of space (?). For isn't the whole universe a vibration and isn't there a rythm to that vibration, he said? Actually, these things are very appealing and have a certain mystique and romanticism about them. But they lie outside the realm of our experience most of the time. The reason why i brought this up is that - imaginary or real - something happened once during a satsang when everybody was chanting AUM in a certain way taught by our Guru. When so many people together say any mantra, the atmosphere does become charged. In the middle of the AUM chanting one heard some "mantras" being chanted. Now there were no words, it was only a certain rythm and beat that one heard which sounded like recitation of Vedic shlokas. Later on i enquired from an older (more experienced) sadhak whether some people were actually chanting shlokas during the AUM chanting. I was told that it was not so. However during AUM chanting it is "very natural" to hear such sounds, she told me. Did this have something to do with the convergence of vibrations which formed into chandas similar Vedic shlokas? I have not been able to figure this out. But I was very moved by this experience. It also added meaning to what Micheal MAmas had said. Maybe with your experience in reciting vedic shlokas and mantras you could explain this. With regards, Vinita
