Guest guest
This prayer is a verse from the Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 4, verse 24. It tells soemthing by way of describing Vedic sacrifice in which there is a priest, a fire sacrifice, a fire altar with a fire burning inside it, a spoon to offer things into the fire, and things to offer. When used as a prayer before meals, this Vedic sacrifice is being compared to eating where there is someone eating, a meal, a digestive system with chemical fire of digestion processing the meal, a means to offer food, whether a spoon or one's hand, and the food itself which is being offered to our inner fire. A good subtitle for this verse could be "God is all there is." If you get nervous mentioning God, it's okay because Brahman means something more like the Infinite, the Biggest beyond measure. In case using "God" does not cause distress, the prayer means God is the offering- God, the oblation. By GOD is the oblation poured into the Fire that is GOD- God truly shall be reached by the one who ever sees God in (all) action. Some people also add the Gira verse 13 from Chapter 3 and chant using the same tune. Brahmarpanam Brahma Havir Brahmagnau Brahmana hutam Brahmaiva Tena Gantavyam Brahma Karma Samadhina Aham Vaisvanaro Bhutva Praninam Deham asrita Pranapana Samayuktah Pachamy annam Chaturvidham "(The whole creation being a gross projection of Brahman, the Cosmic Consciousness itself) so the food too is Brahman, the process of offering it is Brahman, it is being offered to the fire of Brahman. He who thus sees Brahman in action, alone reaches Brahman. I am the fire of digestion in the stomach of all living entities, and I join with the air of life, incoming and outgoing, to digest the four types of food (solid, liquid, semifluid, and fluid) which they eat".
