Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta Sri Guru Datta With the divine blessings of His Holiness Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji Chaturmasya Deeksha(2006) at Vijayawada by Paramahamsa Parivrajakacharya Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji Festivals are important aspects of our culture. These festivals are observed at important junctures annually. If the an year is compared to Sugar Cane Stem, then these important junctures (periods, called Parva) are to be correlated with the knots* in the Stem. Generally these Parva Days are categorized according to the movements of Sun and Moon (events of Solar and Lunar Cycle such as New Moon Day, Full Moon day, Elipse, transition into a zodiac sign etc). Important among the Parva Days are generally referred as Aa - Kaa - Maa - Vai. In a Sugar Cane Stem, knots are the points for regeneration (of setts for replantation). Likewise, the Four Parva Days viz. Aa- Kaa- Maa- Vai connoting Poornima days in the months of Aashadha, Kaartika, Magha and Vaisakha are the important junctures for spiritual regeneration, rejuvenation and awakening. Hence these four days are termed Maha Parva Days. First among the four is Aashadha Poornima. This is in the season of Rains, where the first drops of rain soak the earth and are the important causes of vegetation and creation of various forms of life. This is precisely the reason, why this day is said to be right juncture for spiritual awakening (sprouting the ever existent seeds of spirituality and divinity) in mankind. This day is also called as Vyasa Poornima (named after the legendary Sage Veda Vyasa, a great doyen of knowledge and source of various scriptures as available to us). Monks and Saints select this sacred period (the rainy season) from Aashadha Poornima to Bhadrapada Poornima (Two months or 4 Fortnights) to stay at a place and awaken the spirituality in the visiting devotees with their enlightening discourses. For the Universal welfare, they undertake austerities and worship in this two month period, called as Chaturmasya. And the austerity and ensuing programs are called Chaturmasya Deeksha. It is mentioned by the scriptures that a place resided during this period by a Monk, who has renounced materialistic life, is said to benefit by not only spirituality but also by materialistic benefits such as ample rains, prosperity, health and peace. It is an announcement with pleasure that the request of devotees from Coastal region of Andhra Pradesh has born fruit and Parama Pujya Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji has deputed His successor, HH Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamy (Pontiff of Avadhoota Datta Peetham) to conduct this Chaturmasya Deeksha in the sacred city of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. His Holiness would be camping (at Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Ashrama, Patamata) from 11th July to 7th September 2006. On this holy occasion, Bhagavadgeeta Classes for deserving students, Special Worship, Kriya Yoga sessions and Discourse about Mother Goddess (explanation about Lalita Sahasranama) and other charities are scheduled. It is a matter of great happiness that Pujya Sri Swamiji would be visiting Vijayawada in this Period on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi (26th and 27th September). All the devotees should utilise this opportunity to participate and get the divine benedictions. For details contact K Prabhkar Iyer (0866- 2555541) or sgsadpt (AT) sancharnet (DOT) in.
